Oh, and if you have AMC+, I highly recommend this one ( Both Sides Of The Blade) I liked this one quite a bit, but in terms of Denis films from this year I enjoyed Stars at Noon even more.

Going to a screening of The Rules of the Game tomorrow afternoon and I'm pretty damn hyped about it. This ruled. Oh and I'm now a member of Denver Film, which I will put to good use in 2023.

We watched Bullet Train again last night (saw it in the theater when it first came out). I’m sure I’ve seen better films this year, but goddamn that’s a fun movie.

Goal is to watch 3 movies a month, which is a lot for me. I watched 2 last night.
Banshees of Inisherin you would think would've been better given all the elements on the table, but it was really just ok. Bad is probably too strong a word but if I had gone to a movie theatre and spent actual money on this I would've been disappointed. Colin Farrell did a good job tho, that's about it.
This Place Rules was a good watch. The children stuff was heartbreaking. K thinks they've gotta be setting some of these people up with how ridiculous it all is but I ride the CTA so I know my fellow Americans are bunch of fucked up individuals only interested in profit (which seems to be the "why" Andrew comes to at the end of the film) so I doubt it. Fuck 12, but Wendy's is cool tho, that 4 for 4 biggie bag is tight (I don't remember the exact quote).

i watched The Worst Person in the World over the weekend and really enjoyed it.
there's a scene where a character's editing a photo of a phone booth on a harbor and i was so sure i have a photo of the same phone booth in bergen. but i went back to look and one of the buildings in the background doesn't quite look the same.

Also watched Glass Onion last night and I think I agree, I didn't like it as much as Knives Out but it was a lot of fun overall and I'd be happy for them to keep making these movies also saw Babylon and while I understand why someone would hate it I kind of absolutely loved it We saw Babylon today and we both enjoyed it.

I watched The Menu and Glass Onion this weekend and thought both were pretty bad. A lot of new stuff I had hotly anticipated has been total dogshit, not really sure what's going on there. Still catching up on 2022 releases

Some movies I've watched recently, that have been mentioned here, and my thoughts.
Glass Onion - This one was more fun than the original, I enjoyed the Magnolia and Lebowski references, and really all of the parody. The Menu - This was kinda meh, but it had its moments. It's definitely worth streaming for free at home during Dry January. The Fabelmans - I enjoyed, and I know this will probably get nominated for a bunch of Oscars, but I don't think it deserves to win anything. Speilberg's family story isn't unique or even all that interesting, but he still manages to make it into a decent flick. Banshees of Inisherin - So wonderfully dark and hilarious at the same time. I still have lots of 2022 movies to see, but this has been my favorite to this point.

Decision to Leave was very good. Super invested throughout, really liked the performance of the two leads. Would recommend. It's on Mubi right now which had a deal to get 3 months for 99 cents so that's how I watched it. Excited to get into other stuff on here, looks like lots of good stuff, although I'm in a race to try to catch as much 2022 stuff as I can to have a list by the Oscars
I also saw M3gan today. It was very fun and I was entertained throughout but I really wish it leaned into absurdity/ridiculousness more. It's the same screenwriter as Malignant which made me hope it was going to go balls to the wall crazy like that film did for the last bit and I guess it does to an extent, but it doesn't lean in near as much as it should for how long it builds to it. Also think this would have benefited from an R rating, it almost felt a bit sanitized to get it down to PG-13. One of those cases where its a fun movie I enjoyed, but it wasn't far away from being a favorite and wish it got there
and I also watched Elvis. What a wild movie. The editing is insane and all over the place but that makes it kind of fun? Tom Hanks is awful in this. I hated him. I'm not sure if the real life guy was like that but Tom Hanks hams it up in the worst way. Austin Butler is phenomenal though. It's wild how most of the movie feels like it's moving at a breakneck pace and yet it still feels extremely long. It's a way more interesting film than I ever expected from this but cut out Tom Hanks character and make this 40 minutes shorter and it'd be much better

The Menu was a very fun movie to see with an audience in the theater a couple of weeks ago; I liked that it was more dark comedy than horror.
Glass Onion was very entertaining. Janelle Monae was a blast and I’m a sucker for anything with Kathryn Hahn.

i watched Mr Smith Goes to Washington the other night after seeing a bit about frank capra in Five Came Back. i know it's a "classic", but i felt it's aged poorly. i didn't think mr smith's naivety made him an interesting character and i wanted more on exposing the grift.
