I watched Jurassic World: Dominion last night and it's kind of remarkable to make a movie about dinosaurs so boring.

What’s your Letterboxd rating?

What’s your Letterboxd rating? There's is something about the film that is interesting. But 98 boring minutes of an mostly unseen person walking around a house at night switching the lights on and off, playing with Legos, and whispering plus 2 minutes of weirdness then I guess it was okay. Overall, very boring and frightless.

I was never really bored by Skinamarink but never heavily invested either. Could be one of those things where the right mindset would change it. I feel like if I was home alone at night flipping through channels and it came on, it might legitimately freak me out a bit.

I saw Skinamarink as well, and felt it was alternately tedious and unnerving. I wondered how the director decided what shots to keep in, and what to cut (another low angle shot of a doorway? Sure!). Some parts of it were genuinely creepy and dreamlike. The showing I went to wasn't even half full, the weekend before I tried to see it but it was sold out.

Of the noms I've seen:
Tár (innocent!!!!) Top Gun: Maverick The Fabelmans Big Jim: The Way of Water Everything Everywhere All At Once Elvis Banshees
I no longer feel the need to see the rest like I would've ten years ago but I'm so close at this point I don't see why I wouldn't.

I bought a ticket to see EEAAO at the new Alamo Drafthouse next week since I've never saw it and it was $9 and I'll end Dry January a day early maybe
Genuinely surprised to see Top Gun on there

Surprised you haven’t seen Triangle but otherwise yeah Re: krentist. Obviously scoots has not seen Triangle of Sadness I will see it but every Ruben Ostlund movie is three hours long and the couple times I contemplated going to the theaters it seemed like 5 hours of my life that weren't necessary for the subject matter.

I’ll see the rest of them but as of now
Tár Avatar: The Way of Water Triangle of Sadness Everything Everywhere Banshees of Inisherin
I thought Everything Everywhere was like, fine filmmaking but extremely not for me, and I already shared my thoughts on Banshees. Other three were good to great though! Will say that Triangle of Sadness is not super likely to age well for me but I had fun seeing it in the theater. I did laugh a lot at one part that no one else in the theater seemed to find funny which was deeply embarrassing for me but it shook out alright for me.

The Quiet Girl was the best 2022 movie I saw so I'm glad to see that nominated for Best International Feature.

saw everything everywhere, and the apparently unnominated glass onion, as well as the movie w/ clooney and julia roberts.
the better half saw everything everywhere, and because she occasionally goes with a gal pal to the music box or century, she also saw banshees (which she did not like), fabelmans (which was a little better), and a couple more that weren't oscarworthy.
we did see the everything everywhere prequel, swiss army man, on dvd, but it was not good.

Vulture is running a movie awards fantasy game and after the Oscar nominarions I’m currently in 4th place out of 2500+ entries, which is pretty dope. I jumped from 56th to 9th after the BAFTA nominations came out and moved the rest of the way from the Oscar noms. Looking at the teams ahead of me it’s looking tough for me to make up any further ground, but I’m really just happy to be doing this well

i felt like ass yesterday so i took a day off and watched movies pretty much all day, short recap: Skinner (1993; Ivan Nagy; watched on tubi)this had been on my radar for a really long time, i had to see ricki lake in a horror movie. its super wild and there's this quasi-centerpiece scene that's up there for most non-pc thing i've ever seen in a horror movie. would recommend. Strange Days (1995; Kathryn Bigelow; watched on hbo)wanted to love this, ended up just liking it. a difficult world for me to really fully immerse myself in; maybe i just wasn't in the right mood. however, i thought tom sizemore was effectively brutal, and the scene where angela bassett drives the burning car into the river was *chef's kiss* this movie is TOO LONG. Blow Out (1981; Brian De Palma; watched on hbo; rewatch)another movie i wish i loved, but just like. the good parts are so fucking good. i just feel like its weirdly paced and has a tendency to get kind of boring. I'm Thinking of Ending Things (2020; Charlie Kaufman; watched on netflix)
intriguing but ultimately lost me in its unraveling... again, this movie is TOO LONG. cool movie just truly feels like it could be at least a half hour shorter. That Thing You Do! (1995; Tom Hanks; downloaded; rewatch)
tom everett scott is such a doofus but i love this movie so much. moves at breakneck speed and steve zahn gets the loudest laugh in every scene. i've seen this movie a dozen times and i'm not sure i ever picked up the cheeky joke of them naming themselves 'the wonders' (or oneders) and then being literal one hit wonders.

The song 'That Thing You Do' is brilliant as you never get tired of hearing it all through the movie.
