I had movie posters in my room when I was kid, including this one. I just liked the artwork. I didn't see the actual movie until years later. i have never seen this movie. but i have seen the poster a lot over the years. and it took me way too long to realize the guy on the poster isn't david byrne.

the first time I saw after hours (in a theater, maybe) I did not like it all; years later when I saw it on the small screen (dvd or vhs, I don't remember) I did not dislike it, but am not interested in seeing it again.

Saw this last night. Passable, but not great. But, not terrible either. Saw this today. Not perfect, but still a lot of fun to watch.

I agree on both points. Franchise and not worth it.

i watched Super 8 over the weekend. i think it's the first time i've seen it since it was in the theater. i think it holds up very well.
but it's hard to watch it and not think "Stranger Things ripped this off big time."

I never read this one when I was young because it seemed like it was for girls. I'm kinda bummed that I didn't because I just saw the movie and loved it.

I don't know who still does this, but I got an email saying that Netflix is going to cease sending DVD's through the mail at the end of September.
I haven't used it in a while, but it was nice that option was always there. Saw lots of movies and TV shows that way.

I think I might have two Netflix DVDs that I’ve been sitting on for that long? One of them I think is Kubrick’s The Killing.

That’ll be helpful to know when I sit down to watch it in 2033.

Mrs. Doso gave me a package of tickets for the Tribeca Film Festival for the holidays and beginning Thursday, I can secure seats for screenings before they go on sale to the general public. I'm overwhelmed by the choices, especially since I'm not very in tune with what the interesting upcoming releases are. Open to any/all suggestions (except horror genre) if anyone's willing to offer some guidance to ol' doso. tribecafilm.com/festival/film

Can't vouch for anything else on the menu though. I need to do some research when they announce what's going to be on the Tribeca at Home lineup

Break the Game could be fun. Looks like a doc about a Breath of the Wild speed runner. Afire is the new Christian Petzold film, so it should be really good as well. Eric LaRue is Michael Shannon’s directorial debut which could be interesting. The Good Half features Nick Jonas in the lead, if that interests you. John Early: Now More Than Ever could be funny, and the description sounds interesting too.
If I was going I would super prioritize Afire above any of the other options

There seems to be more than a couple films directed by actors here...
First Time Female Director directed by Chelsea Peretti
Bucky F*cking Dent directed by David Duchovny
The Listener directed by Steve Buscemi
Maggie Moore(s) directed by John Slattery
and the afformentioned Shortcomings (directed by Randall Park) and Eric LaRue

Thank you thebosma @munivelli ! I grabbed tickets for Eric Larue, First Time Female Director, Full Circle and John Early: Now More than Ever. Very excited to see all of these and I really appreciate the thoughtful suggestions.

I saw Beau is Afraid earlier this week and still don't really know what to think of it. Honestly parts of it felt directly lifted out of anxiety nightmares I've had and I was deeply uncomfortable because of that which was probably kind of the point so props to Ari for that. It was definitely beautifully made and I think I audibly said "what the fuck" more than once which was fun but I'm not sure I actually had a very good time watching that. I've seen a lot of people saying it's really funny and there was definitely moments but I honestly didn't find it that funny? Again probably because of the aforementioned half the moments in the film felt straight lifted from anxiety nightmares which just made me anxious lmao
anyways interesting movie and Ari Aster is still top of my most interesting directors list even though this is to me a clear 3rd place of his three features
