Glad to hear this! The trailer didn’t really grab me, but this is at the top of Mrs. Doso’s list. It’s very funny and insightful. Really enjoyed it

Polite Society was some good shit...feel justified spending $20 to rent it.

Took my daughter to see Guardians of the Galaxy 3 tonight at the huge theatre by us. Made it through about 2 hr 15 min of the movie, the main character was literally walking to the final confrontation…. And the power went completely out in the building.
I have not been the biggest fan of the Guardians to this point, but I can honestly say that is one of the best movies of the MCU. I just have to see the last 15 minutes at some point now

Saw Little Mermaid tonight and it exceeded my expectations. Definitely enjoyed it and it might be my favorite of the live action Disney stuff.

Never saw another Harry Potter movie.

Also, saw Polar Express at some point when I was working as a camp counselor. The actual film melted about halfway through.

Watched "Missing" last night which was fun, pretty similar to "Searching", but it got even more ridiculous at a point then "Searching" did. Like it kept trying to one up itself on twists. But at least it was entertaining, worth the Netflix watch
I'm kind of a sucker for the format, the everything happens on screen thing is really fun and had some really clever choices with that, just like Searching did. It's gimmicky, but it's fun

Watched Beau is Afraid this weekend. There were a few things I admired about it, but I wouldn't watch it again. I thought it did a good job at depicting anxiety early on, and the whole perception that the outside world is full of danger and should be avoided.

We saw this today. I had pretty low expectations and the movie slightly exceeded them. So, it was ok, but not not great. Decent jump-scares. One thing they did well in the movie was setting the atmosphere for the scares.

The fam all went to see the new Spiderman last night and we all loved it. Great animation again and pretty exciting all the way through. The only thing I didn't like is it's just a direct setup for the next sequel, like it stops mid action and says "to be continued"...
At least the next one comes out next year, so we don't have to wait long

Had time to catch up on some movies this weekend.
The Tender Bar - Restarted our Affleck project from quarantine where we watched every Affleck movie ever. He's genuinely terrific in this even though the movie is about as average as a movie can get. Perfectly watchable but ultimately pointless.
Palm Springs - Really liked this. Had zero expectations going in but I thought it was very funny, very moving at times, and super well done. So easily digestable too since it was only 90 minutes.
The Banshees of Inisherin - Really terrific. Blown away by the performances (especially Barry Keoghan), and I'm surprised none of the actors won an Oscar last year.

Thank you thebosma @munivelli ! I grabbed tickets for Eric Larue, First Time Female Director, Full Circle and John Early: Now More than Ever. Very excited to see all of these and I really appreciate the thoughtful suggestions. We saw what I believe was the world premiere of Eric Larue last night (Michael Shannon's directorial debut) - super depressing subject matter, but incredibly well done. I found myself hanging on just about every word. Awesome to see Judy Greer just absolutely crush a rare non-comedic role. Skarsgard, Allison Pill, Annie Parisse and Lawrence Grimm were also outstanding. Skarsgard and Shannon were in attendance; they participated in an illuminating 20-minute Q&A after the film along with the writer, Brett Neveu.

i watched two lifetime movies on amazon yesterday because i felt like it My Husband's Double Life is an odd little flick. The couple in this has money problems and as a result of them, the dad decides to fake his own suicide and move to Maine and start a new life. But everything kind of just "happens" and there never really seem to be any stakes. He moves out there, the wife figures it out like 10 years later, decides to go confront him, and then he goes to jail for abandoning his kids (foggy on how this is possible). Oh and one of the kids is a baby Michael Cera. I guess the confusing part for me was the whole double-life...like he's really only living one life, its just a new one? I spent most of the movie waiting for the 'real plot' to kick in and it never did. Kind of a letdown but I still watched the whole thing. For My Daughter's Honor was the title on amazon, but I keep seeing this referred to by Indecent Seduction elsewhere. This movie features unhinged pedophile high-school-teacher Gary Cole grooming and sexually assaulting students in front of basically an entire town who all dismiss the idea that he might actually be a predator. This is at times laugh out loud funny - every time someone tries to raise concern, another adult brushes them off saying "we've all heard those rumors about Coach Nash for years! he's just popular!" Even after her parents start catching wind that Gary Cole might be up to no good with their own daughter, they still let her go on a camping trip with him and his family! "Honey, remember that football coach at Amy's high school that's rumored to be a child molester? She's gonna go spend the weekend with him in the middle of the woods!" It's ridiculous that this is called 'For My Daughter's Honor' because nobody honors the daughter in this movie at all lol

Our final screening for the Tribeca Film Festival tonight was Chelsea Peretti’s directorial debut, First Time Female Director. What a disappointment. The film has so many funny people in the cast but the script was an absolute mess and it was just not very funny.
Didn’t expect Peretti to show up since the premiere was earlier this week and this was the third or fourth screening, but she was there and did 15 minutes of Q&A at the end.
I never really considered attending the film festival before, but it was a lot of fun (even attending this film). Kudos to Mrs. Doso for a thoughtful gift.

Forgot to mention: they screened a short film before the main feature, Proof of Concept - a short film about getting a short film made. Very meta, very good.
