Dead Reckoning is fucking sick but I just couldn't really believe a bunch of Italian men intervening to stop sexual harassment

What's the best premium format screen that isn't a true 70MM IMAX?
We had one true IMAX screen here in Houston and it's closed for renovations, and has been for a while. And they were using one of the smaller "liemax" projectors for the last few years anyway, hoping the renovation fixes that but won't be ready for MI7 and Oppenheimer
So that leaves the digital IMAX smaller version, Regal RPX, Cinemark XD, or AMC's Dolby Cinema. I've heard a lot about Dolby and I'm seeing MI7 in that, will see if it's worth the extra 20 minute drive
There's also some other options too (kind of overwhelming), a few theaters here have this Samsung Onyx screen that's actually a huge LED screen that sounds interesting but I'm skeptical. Have at least one 4DX theater where the seats move and stuff but not going to lie that sounds like it'd be distracting annoying. And a few theaters have the ScreenX thing where it projects the film panaramic across the sides but that also sounds annoying and distracting. Not too interest in any of those

Saw the new Little Mermaid. Somehow never saw the original so everything was new to me. It was mostly very good.

Really liked Mission Impossible 7. Well paced, some very fun set pieces, good villain. Did a good job of standing as its own movie, the "part one" and "part two" thing made me a little worried if it'd be like half a movie.
My updated Mission Impossible rankings right now are 6>4>7>1>5>3>2

I have nothing to do so I watched every Mission Impossible movie for the first time the last couple weeks before catching a matinee of the new one today.
They are all very stupid but I had fun watching them.

i went to see the latest Mission:Impossible last night and was slightly disappointed. i don't know if the aspect ratio was off, but the closeups on everyone's faces in the meeting room near the beginning looked peculiar. and it just kind of came off as blurring that fine line between james bond and M:I. i hope Part 2 wraps it up nicely.

I did the whole double feature last night. I know sometimes Nolan mixing is fucked up but it occasionally felt like some dialogue was bouncing off the music box walls. I wonder if I'm too deaf to keep seeing movies there, especially one that's so talky. That said, it's very well made and Cillian Murphy is so good and has been for so long he deserves his flowers here. Looking forward to rewatching either in theaters or in a few months on peacock.
For Barbie I tried out some new edibles and got so high I disassociated for much of the film. I enjoyed it, some of the metahumor didn't land for me. Ryan Gosling is unbelievable as Ken. There was too much Shang Chi in this movie fuck that guy.

Barbie was fine/good at best, but absolutely worth it to see Ryan Gosling.

while we still have netflix (I feel that a price hike that'll drive us away is eventually coming), we watched They Cloned Tyrone, tonight. Unlike many of the critics, we liked the second half of the movie better than the first half. I don't even want to post spoilers, so I'll wait until more people have seen it to comment further.

I saw Talk To Me last night. I definitely enjoyed it even though I could not quite understand the appeal of doing that scary-ass ritual over and over again.

I liked the second half of Oppenheimer more than the first half. It was kind of montage-y for a while, but after the big explosion it got easier to follow.

Just watch it on your phone. A boomer across the aisle on my flight home this weekend watched the entirety of Tom Hanks' A Man Called Otto on his phone with no headphones

Barbie was fun and has some great moments but I feel like it didn't really land the ending that well.
Oppenheimer was really good, maybe a little overlong and the beginning was a tad jarring jumping around so much but at a point I was invested and in, some of the conversations were really good and Cillian Murphy is awesome in that.
