one of my friends said this wham documentary was good. i gave it a shot last night and really enjoyed it. although, filmmakers got lucky that andrew ridgely's mom had scrapbooks of everything they'd done from like the first demo until the final show. i really enjoyed the voiceovers of andrew ridgely interviews recorded presumably specifically to mesh with old george michael interviews. great footage, good pacing, good overview. i can't imagine a longtime fan would get much new out of this, but i thought it was good for someone who doesn't know anything about wham apart from a couple big singles. and andrew's exuberant support for george's progression as an entertainer outgrowing wham seemed really genuine.

Theater near me was showing Heat in advance of the next Michael Mann movie. Seeing these types of gems again is well fucking worth it...
but holy hell that downtown LA shootout on the big screen.

but holy hell that downtown LA shootout on the big screen. one of my friends said he didn't like that scene because it wasn't realistic. then i told him it was based on a true event. so he found another excuse to say it's not a great movie. some people...

I normally really like Michael Mann, but I have no desire to see Ferrari.

Yeah the trailer looked awful. Should've just used an Italian actor - Driver can't pull it off.
I'm really psyched to see The Iron Claw at some point this week. Local theater is showing that and The Poseidon Adventure so may make it a double feature.

Count me in for any movie that had to take the real life story and make it less depressing.

Iron Claw was good. Started reading more about it after I got home and it's wild how much they mixed up the timeline for the sake of the movie. I was wondering why the pacing was all over the place. They even omitted a brother.

We watched Anatomy of a Fall and Poor Things. The former was absolutely terrific and the latter was very good and very entertaining. I thought Mark Ruffalo was particularly awesome though all of the acting was great.
We started Nyad but it seemed horrible?

We went to see Poor Things last weekend. My internal clock hadn't reset completely from my Paris trip, and as a result, after 1 beer I felt extremely tired and fell asleep off and on. What I saw I did enjoy, though.

Iron Claw was good. Started reading more about it after I got home and it's wild how much they mixed up the timeline for the sake of the movie. I was wondering why the pacing was all over the place. They even omitted a brother. There's a Hulu doc available about this from Vice that was featured in a series they did on wrestling - it's a very bad documentary that relies way too much on actors that don't look much like the Von Erich's recreating scenes in some weird shadow/memory type setup. Spoiler'd for those who have not seen the movie: Anyway, it did feature a lengthy interview with Kevin and had some additional tidbits I wasn't aware of previously (apparently there was a fake Von Erich at some point?). The stuff about Chris (the brother who was not included in the movie) was super sad and I have no idea how that would have been referenced in the movie without making it over 3 hours. Dude was 5'5 and his bones were incredibly brittle, so I have no idea why anyone thought it'd be a good idea to have him wrestle. The timeline of the movie is confirmed to be completely out-of-whack. The last fight with Flair happened when David and Kerry were both alive. There were plenty of developments related to Kerry that would have made his story make more sense within the context of the movie - he had recently divorced and lost custody of his two kids, he was about to be arraigned on a drug charge, etc.
If you have 45 minutes and don't mind the cringeworthy set up of the doc, it's at the very least an interesting follow-up after seeing the movie. Another takeaway was how glowing Kevin was about Fritz, which is absolutely not how he was portrayed in the movie.

MJF played the fake Von Erich in the movie (although they never explicitly say that and he was on screen for about 8 seconds).
Dark Side of the Ring is the name of the documentary series.
