This is the second Star Wars spin-off in a row with "creative differences" and look how that worked out for Rogue One. Yeah, not remotely excited.

I'm sure we've discussed this plenty, but I had very few issues with Rogue One. I enjoyed myself just fine.

I won't pretend to understand how these studios operate but it baffles me that they'd bother to give the movie to a pair of directors who've had virtually nothing but big successes and then not trust them to work.

i mean, those guys while having great successes, have had those successes via turning known properties on their heads (ie batman in the lego movies). i guess lucasfilm did not want them to fuck with han solo too much, which is unfortunate because he'd be the perfect character to have some fun with.

I still think the idea of a Han Solo movie was dumb in the first place and I think its even dumber to put those directors on a film where the studio is going to be strict about it. I think they could potentially make a great Star Wars film but give them free reign with some random side story, don't force them into something like a movie about an established character where they have to follow a bunch of rules.

This is what bothers me. Disney is proving that they don't really want to make anything but the same movie again and again. If we're going to oversaturate Star Wars we can at least do it with some creativity. As it is I'm already not excited for Episode 8 or the prospect of any Star Wars stuff and this doesn't help.

maybe the original director wanted to make it a musical, so this might be a good thing. It's not like Ron Howard is a terrible director.

The Han Solo movie always sounded like a bad idea but I at least trust Ron Howard to not go totally off brand. They really need to do a Jabba gangsta movie.
That said - it's comforting that Rian Johnson has seemingly been given totally free reign, or at least they've coordinated the PR better.

Rewatched this for probably the 4th or 5th time. One of those films that I think is quite literally perfect (pardon the unavoidable pun). Satoshi Kon is truly a director beyond comparison.

Yeah one of my favorites. Black Swan is basically a worse version of that, sorry Natalie.

TBF, some of Satoshi Kon's other work is also kinda a "worse" version of it, except all that stuff is still 9/10 material because he didn't make a bad thing.

Finally watched Get Out yesterday. It was incredible. I'm glad I was able to stay away from most of the plot details this long.

just looked at what won that year and what was nominated.
won: the secret in their eyes. hard to argue with that...
of the nominees i probably would have gone with the white ribbon tho.
The Secret in Their Eyes, Argentina. The Milk of Sorrow, Peru. The White Ribbon, Germany. Ajami, Israel. A Prophet, France.
