Saturday night for me. Posted in another thread, but it'll be my first visit to an Alamo Drafthouse. My wife and I were the first to buy tickets, so we had our pick of the theater. Reviews I've read have me really excited.

You mean I pay for all these damn subscription streaming services and when I want some dumb fun like Tokyo Drift, none of them have it?

I went to see Alien Covenant today before it left the KC theaters. I really liked it, despite the not-"I didn't see that coming" twist at the end.

I liked it a lot. Everything was technically flawless. The end has a couple real corny bits but it doesn't detract too much from how awesome most of it is.

Baby Driver was extremely good but there's on massive flaw that just requires too much suspension of disbelief:
How could someone who is familiar enough with Britpop to know Blur deep cuts insist that Beck and T-Rex have the only songs about Deborah and completely omit Disco 2000?!?

Baby Driver was a lot of fun. Could have trimmed down the last 30 or so minutes IMO but I really enjoyed the film. Obviously, incredible editing since it's Edgar Wright. It has a really great balance to it in terms of plot, comedy, and action. The great, sometimes subtle, visual humor is all there. Great performance from Spacey as well. He managed to sound incredibly serious while delivering some pretty intentionally goofy dialogue. Overall, really great. Can't recommend it enough.
I used the word great a lot but I don't give a fuck I'm still on an adrenaline high from that shit.

Baby Driver is A+++, there are complaints to be leveled, sure, but when I leave the theater as happy as I did, it's hard to remember them.

Any film that manages to use the song Hocus Pocus by Focus in a way that's not a joke can't not be amazing.

Yeah I agree with most of the thoughts on Baby Driver, it was a ton of fun. It's certainly not perfect and I may would put it in the lower half of my favorite Edgar Wright movies, but then you also have to note that I've dearly loved every one of his films. It's very worth seeing all around

just about as fucking stupid as it looked in the trailers. Not even in a fun, empty calories kind of way? I kind of want to see it. It can't be any worse than 'Shark Night'.

i mean it's not B shark movie quality (tho i will forever love and defend the Sharknados and Mega Sharks of the world) but there's plenty of gripes I have with it, logically and cinematically.
but i'm not gonna tell someone to not see it if they're into that thing. it's got some good suspenseful moments and the ending is...well. it's a thing.
if you can watch it for free, definitely go for it. i just wouldn't wanna pay for it.

How do you feel about 'Deep Blue Sea'? That's the kind of fun, stupid, shark movie I enjoy. And yeah, 47 meters = approx. 150 feet, which is way unsafe for basic open water sport divers (~100 feet is usually the max they tell you)

(think of the drinking games!) 47 Meters Down doesn't have anything of that. the first half is boring and the second half is just dumb. it's the dumb part that's entertaining at least, so you can watch it and laugh and eat popcorn. it's a lot like The Shallows, which i also didn't like.
