This was released on Monday. It occupies that space between Stephen Malkmus, Parquet Courts, and Kiwi Jr, so if those are up your alley I'd say give it a whirl. What was this in reference to? I'm def interested

This one reminds me a ton of old school DCFC, very recommended (Sinai Vessel - Ground Aswim)

Haven't gotten around to Shame but a few others that I did check out already that were decent.
NANCY: The Seven Foot Tall Post-Suicidal Feel Good Blues - psych/garage rock, I could see quite a few digging it round here. "Pleasure Pen" is great imo. Insides : Soft Bonds - minimalist pop duo, has some very small similarities to The xx and Cigarettes After Sex, tho I wouldn't say they are adjacent that much. Buck Meek: Two Saviors - Big Thief guitarists sophomore album. Daniel Knox: Won't You Take Me With You - baritone singer that injects some humor to his minimalist take on Americana. He's worked with Andrew Bird, Rufus Wainwright and Swans but doesn't sound anything like those fwiw. Pom Poko : Cheater - Norwegian noise pop, has elements of Deerhoof's poppier moments imo. Midnight Sister : Painting the Roses - the only song I listened to reminded me a little bit of Unknown Mortal Orchestra, but that was just one song. Have not listened to more but I will.

Swear to god I'm gonna listen to some 2021 music eventually, but this is where I'm at now Edit: Joanna really freaked it on Sapokanikan, huh? I've heard this song probably like 100 times, but I'm still swept up by her lyricism. Best written song of the decade, IMO.

There's also a Beach Bunny EP out today. This is about what you expect. Definitely worth checking out but not earth-shattering stuff. As an album this isn't as strong as their early stuff but the XRT hits "Down by the Water" and "This Is Why We Fight" are still top-tier. I would like to see them again at some point, and hopefully not be on a really weird date that airportman crashes next time.

This strides the line between "twangy Shins" and reminds me of Vic Chesnutt at points? Whatever the fuck that means, I like it and agree with AvB that it's much better than the debut. I see myself re-visiting this a fair amount this year

Can't stop listening to the new Buck Meek album. Looking back on my 2020 list, if it were released last year it would have been #9 I think.
Terrific stuff.

I'm reading Ted Gioia's History of Jazz so I've spent the day kicking around this Louis Armstrong playlist from the Lincoln Center. Am already entirely unfamiliar with any pre- Miles Davis jazz, minus a little Duke Ellington, so this has been interesting. Not all of it catches me, but some of it is incredible. Not to relate *everything* to the Dead, but I had a lil breakthrough listening to more of the King Oliver band in the same mindset I listen to Jerry's guitar. Some incredible cornet interplay - especially for something that's ~ 100 years old.
