ooh love this album. when i saw them on the monster tour they played 4 songs off of it and it's always exciting / a little bit of a struggle to hear an unreleased song for the first time in a live setting. but at that point for me r.e.m. could do no wrong so of course i loved them.

This was so good. Some strong Weyes Blood/U.S. Girls vibes. (Midnight Sister - Painting the Roses)Given my personal feelings on those artists I should've known this wasn't gonna do anything for me but I wanted to try and I did and I got 3/4s of the way through and I hope y'all are proud of me cause I'm proud of myself.

I'm on the 2nd song and I can already tell you with confidence that there's no reason for this album to be 100 minutes long. Edit: holy fucking shit his most popular song is a Jason Isbell cover this entire country is culturally bankrupt

Thinking about when I saw this band at Lolla 2018 and got completely covered in dust, then Bosma gave me hella wet wipes to clean my face off. Album still slaps.

New Rhye is on par with their previous stuff. No big surprises, but it's good.

Went back to the archive and I apparently ranked this at #28 in 2018? Lol, I haven't touched over half the records above it since. This was easily top 10 that year.

It's 2018 day here at Monastery's place! This one also, unsurprisingly, holds up.

Bob's Son really hit the spot. Didn't really go back to his one last year but this one I might end up doing that. The Logic1000 EP is some solid beep-booping.

Listened to quite a bit over the weekend and wanted to do a roundup. monasterymonochrome would love to know who your favorite players are at the moment. I reminisced with my neighbor about the first time we each ever heard The Weeknd and we both coincidentally discovered House of Balloons on 8tracks in college, so I threw it on the table. I didn't fully realize that the original trilogy is not available on Spotify. Shit sucks! The Morning > Wicked Games still great. Record sounds reeeeeal good. It was my first time through Much Against Everyone's Advice (which I loved), The Private Press (which I really liked), and probably my first time front-to-back through Blonde on Blonde since like jr high (which soundtracked a cool game of monopoly on the switch that i played with thebosma ). True Blue specifically is the jazz record I'd recommend out of what I listened to above, but I really enjoyed both Let 'Em Roll and Let it Go because both (but primarily the former) feature some sick Hammond organ. John Patton puts on a circus of a clinic all over that one. Shirley Scott plays organ on the Turrentine record and its a nice accompaniment but ST tends to outshine her. I'd be lying if I said my growing love for the Grateful Dead didn't have an influence on the direction my jazz listening is taking.

Early Waxahatchee doing Beat Happening is how I'd describe this album ( Palberta5000 by the band Palberta)

If anyone has any suggestions for recent stuff that sounds like Jon Hopkins or Jacques Greene, I'm all ears

This came out last year and Stereogum spotlit the band today. This is definitely up most of y'alls alley (tho its not like Jon Hopkins, sorry Mook)

If anyone has any suggestions for recent stuff that sounds like Jon Hopkins or Jacques Greene, I'm all ears You might like the new BICEP album. I'll look at my spotify later and come up with some better suggestions Edit: Not sure if these will scratch your itch, but you might enjoy Nathan Fake, Daniel Avery, George Fitzgerald, Roman Flugel, Max Cooper, Rival Consoles, Lapalux, Luke Abbott, Mount Kimbie, Maribou State, Tourist, and Lane 8. They didn't all have new music last year but I didn't realize how many I was typing and just kept going lol hope at least one or two of these fit what you're looking for.

I pulled this up b/c I had heard this was pretty good. And it actually is! It reminds me of Boy-era U2, and 80's-era Ultravox as well. I only liked the hits and gave up listening to new stuff by them after Day and Age, so this was a surprise.
