Thankfully this pretty much met my expectations, it was very good. Probably ranks third in their discography for me at the moment New Sharon Van Etten is excellent. Pretty decent release day so far.

These arcade fire assholes still know how to make me cry after all these years. What a treat. I assure you all these songs are probably gonna be amazing live

Thankfully this pretty much met my expectations, it was very good. Probably ranks third in their discography for me at the moment New Sharon Van Etten is excellent. Pretty decent release day so far. I think I like this too? Not really into the Age of Anxiety songs or the second End of the Empire (gets a little too far into Everything Now territory with all the "unsubscribe" lyrics and what not). But the rest is really awesome! The whole back half from Lightning onward is great. Don't know where I'd slot it in the discog rn but it's a definite step up from the last one. Might still rank fifth for me, but this band can still move me. Which is all I can ask for at this point. Edit: Man, just re-listened and when the lyrics are bad here they're abysmal. Def feeling this firmly in 5th for their discography. Some of these songs are gonna go off live tho.

Another excellent Spiritualized album. Not sure it tops And Nothing Hurt, but it's a worthy companion. My only issue right now is that, damn, it is so loud. I enjoy the Wall of Sound chaos that this creates, but I also doubt I'll return to it as frequently, as I've felt fatigued after each of my listens to it thus far.

Just an absolutely stacked day for music.
Started off with The Smile which is amazing, up there with a lot of Radioheads stuff.
Kendrick & Florence next

The new Arcade Fire is good overall. Some of the lyrics are dopey - you could make this argument going back to The Suburbs - but the tunes are better than the last album.
The acoustic guitar at the beginning of 'WE' made me feel like singing 'Every Rose Has Its Thorn...'

Kendrick album is good but I think it’d be better if like the first 4-5 songs on side 2 weren’t on it. I’ll be going back to it as the highs are pretty damn high here.
The Smile album is basically Hail to the Thief which isn’t my favorite Radiohead album but it’s still good

I almost love every other song though.

Couple other thoughts here: The Black Keys album is "turned it off half way thru" bad. King Hannah album is a cross between Mazzy Star and Third-era Portishead. I know, I'm throwing bands around, but I've been on this forum for 10+ years and know what the fuck I'm talking about. I sincerely believe every single active member of this forum should give it a once over if nothing else. They play Schubas in 2 weeks and will play the Riv or a similar sized venue in 4 years. Kamera set a timer and see if I'm right. Warpaint album is something I'll be quietly going back to throughout the year. I'll be sure to sit outside whatever venue they play and stalk Symb. Butthole Surfers remain a band not talked enough about 'round here. Rolling Blackouts album is not as good as the early stuff but way better than their last album. Gonna be a can't miss Lolla set and if they play Schubas saturday night I'll sit at a stool at the bar the whole show and just do shots with fiveiron83321 and other boarders with taste who show up. Also tagging monasterymonochrome here to remind me to brainstorm the 80s album project next week since all I got is some mountain goats shows up and can do dumb music shit. Also I officially acquired this on vinyl today it's hand numbered it's cool I hope arbee is proud of me

Locust Abortion Technician and Hairway to Steven are the two I seem to be going back to the most lately. Remember how bad they were at Day for Night and how special that show was?

Happy to tell that joke anytime.
I can’t think of too many intentionally shitty shows. Death Grips and DOOM come to mind. DOOM was also notable because I very lightly got hit by a car afterwards. Also Danzig at FFF.
