Now that's what I call range! i haven't listened to the newest one yet, but I think it was an experiment where they were trying to only use two chords or something, so I'm assuming it is probably not their best

That came out like 3 weeks ago and it's not even their newest album Maybe I’ll chase this with 5 new SAULT albums lmao Update: first SAULT record "Untitled (God)" is a 21 track, 73-minute long thematically gospel album. Enough of it is in their classic crisp (yet hazy?) funk style that I can get over track after track about God. Some real cool sounding stuff tho, interested in working my way through the other four.

Coming back to say "Life We Rent but Love Is Rent Free" is worth downloading the whole thing for. What an awesome track. Ya know, maybe when I'm done with all five of these records I'll make a little single LP mixtape out of it and drop it on here somewhere.

Up there with their best work, might have an argument as their best album, tbh. Stylistically all over the place but idiosyncratically theirs. Do give this a listen / download before it goes away.

Revisiting this one today too - a lovely little surprise for me to enjoy a Panda Bear solo record so much these days. Really enjoyed how present Sonic Boom's production was - sometimes it felt like I was listening to a natural extension of Spacemen 3, but set in a cosmic 1950s or something? A gem of a record.

This band is fucking wild. Just finished up all five albums. "Aiir" is a shorter collection of highly orchestrated choral pieces. "Earth" is back to traditional instrumentation, but with extremely minimal compositions and emphasis on group drumming and sparsely accompanied basslines. "Today & Tomorrow" is a fucking rock record featuring a children's choir on vocals. Shit is crazy. Sounds like WITCH / Zamrock at times and other times sounds indebted to like Sabbath and Black Flag. Like, I cannot emphasize enough how all over the place SAULT is.

Some killer additions lately to Big Ears (Morton Subotnik! Sun Ra Arkestra!) - they're trickling them in throughout November. One of which is Beth Orton, who I had not heard of but was apparently a relatively big deal in the 90s? This is her new album and it has a whopping 8.7 from the Fork. Just listened and was blown away. The arrangements are complex, swirling, yet delicate and achingly beautiful. Only caught a few tracks' lyrics on first listen but a few lines hit home pretty hard. Plus there's an Alabaster DePlume feature! RIYL: Cassandra Jenkins, idk - Wild Pink?

One of which is Beth Orton, who I had not heard of but was apparently a relatively big deal in the 90s? Her album Trailer Park got some critical love in the 90's, she was also the singer on the Chemical Brothers' 'Where Do I Begin', which was on their big breakthrough album.

A beautiful, jazzy, psychedelic reimagining of Dvorak's American Quartet, courtesy of one of the finest active guitarists, Yonatan Gat.

Yeah this might be the most I've enjoyed him...ever? OPN absolutely killed it. This just has a great aesthetic running throughout. Hard to imagine this not being my AOTY at this point. Yeah still up there. Dawn.fm for those unaware.

for every couple of billy joel songs i think are great (she's always a woman, only the good die young, scenes from an italian restaurant) there's always one that annoys me so profoundly it just turns me off of him entirely (movin' out)
