One of the greatest singer-songwriter country records, IMO. Used to play "She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye" all the time on my radio show.

One of the greatest singer-songwriter country records, IMO. Used to play "She Even Woke Me Up To Say Goodbye" all the time on my radio show. Like, it's insane how much empty space he leaves in these arrangements. It's an album that demands your attention by virtue of its fragility. It's like going to church, or, at least what I imagine going to church is like.

Finally listened to Zach Bryan, board darling. There is a really solid maybe 10 song album in here, but man there is just too much stuff otherwise. Really should have split this up into one or two albums. But definitely good anyways

Getting near the end of Bill Malone's Country Music USA and am finally working on a period I have virtually no knowledge of: popular 80s country. So far I'm thinking: George Strait is kinda boring? Pretty middle-of-the-road in everything from production to vocals to lyricism. But there's a few good one in there. Keith Whitley: kinda great!

Besides Fireworks, this is my favorite of 2023 so far. Can hear influences of Sigur Ros and Frightened Rabbits, among others. Worth a listen.

Gloria, Days of Thunder, and Los Angeles are highlights in this EP.

don't think I've ever done a full listen of this cover to cover. Lots of Killer Mike on here which is never a bad thing.

God I wish I was more into weed in high school when that washed out ep came out. Gizz heads- where does this album rank in their discography, generally? That was my first listen and it's easily the one that's grabbed me the most out of all their albums.

A guy from my old job was really into them and we talked about this band for a minute (well he talked, I tried desperately to remember what people said when Gord died). I saved this album and then a week later walked out of that job because his underling, my boss, was a bad person. I later heard from the grapevine that this supervisor reassigned a few people to different offices once allegations of sexual misconduct broke out, and at least one of those people he reassigned kept doing sexual misconduct allegedly, a la the Catholic Church.
Anyway, this was my first time listening to this album and I thought it was good!

fully completely blows it out of the water IMO. fifty mission cap and locked in the trunk of a car are all-timer hip songs.
i will always regret not seeing them at house of blues on the 20th anniversary tour. i remember arbee having seen them a bunch.
their live album "live between us" is the one i probably play most often - stellar performances of 'blow at high dough' and 'grace too'

Love love loved this one. Almost reminded me of Tom Waits at times, if that makes sense.

Yeah, if you ever get a chance to see Lyle, it is worth it. His shows are usually pretty pricey though

Looks like he's touring the southwest pretty hard this winter/spring. Signed up for his email list in case he swings up northeast anytime soon.

I think my uncle who passed reviewed Lyle at least 3 times back in the day when he came to Chicago. I have never listened. Guess I'll fix that soon.

Not a knock on his songwriting at all, but my favorite album of his is Step Inside This House, which was all covers of Townes Van Zandt and other Texan songwriters

Keeping up with this page's yee haw energy - I also absolutely loved this album on first listen. Finally some clean production that doesn't sound dated or hokey as shit! Clint's melodies are killer here and this whole record rips by without a second of filler. Next up will be listening to Garth Brooks for the first time - open to any/all recommendations.

If we ever do a Best of the 70s, I'd expect this to score highly on my list. A truly perfect album.
