Always kinda liked but didn't love this album, but it clicked in a major way for me this morning. Also, did y'all know that Nicky fuckin' Hopkins is playing piano on two tracks here?? That's the dude you hear on goddamn Sympathy for the Devil and She's A Rainbow!

Pretty cool stuff (though the second track had me hitting the skip button after a few minutes), his voice kind of reminds me of Tom Waits.

If we ever do a Best of the 70s, I'd expect this to score highly on my list. A truly perfect album. Thanks for bringing this top of mind. I hadn't listened in at least a year if not longer. Really is wonderful. Pivoted right into Wild is the Wind afterwards (also perfect)

Listened to this whole thing this morning (it's a triple LP, so nearly two hours), and damn that was lovely. I can feel myself falling into a big Doc Watson rabbit-hole and he absolutely shines on this. Really cool hearing Roy Acuff and Maybelle Carter singing over crisp, modern recording techniques. Honestly, this is a great place to start for anyone interested in Old Time country music.

Tons of new albums out today. Started my day with the new one by Hammock (RIYL Explosions in the Sky) Pissed because Thrill Jockey does not put their stuff on Tidal for some reason, so I can't hear the new Oozing Wound on there. I can hear it on bandcamp anyways.

Apparently the Sightless Pit record is also on Thrill Jockey, so I appreciate that note.

There's a couple of good songs on here but there's also a couple songs where I started laughing out loud and I don't think that was the intention

And ol' dude from the Dan Band, apparently!
I had never heard of her but the Todd said she came into the store to sign some vinyl and they sold all 35 copies the first day, so I was curious.

Great album that I heard for the first time today! That said, and I get it within the context of the song, but it was real jarring when they dropped the n-word (!!!) on "Idiot's Revenge."

Still sad sometimes that he's gone Ive been rewatching Treme in advance of our trip to New Orleans and it’s such a shock to see him appear in an episode with his dad.

Damn, this record is a lot of fun. Also super sonically interesting. "The Negotiation Limerick File" is one of the best Beastie Boys songs and I'm bummed it took me this long to hear it.

I was wondering about the samples on this one, so I went on wiki. Someone named "Pat Shannahan" is credited with sample clearance. Looked her up and found this fascinating interview from 2016 where she talks about her career and the process behind clearing samples. web.archive.org/web/20161023041919/http://laist.com/2016/10/19/pat_shannahan_detective_sampling_interview.php She worked on Ill Communication and Hello Nasty, plus all the Avalanches records (which she talks about a lot here), Odelay, and records for Prince Paul and Shaggy (!). So pretty much the wizard of sample clearance. Sadly, she passed away in 2020.

'Unite' is one of my favorite Beasties tracks: "Mike D/with the rump shakin' action/do it like this for the intergalaction"

Another fun one - love this album. Shout-out to their legendary performance at The Bronze in Sunnydale, CA for turning me onto this band.
