Really great day for new music:
-Young Fathers is an absolute banger - my favorite album of the young year. Will probably be buying the album on Bandcamp today. Gonna be crushed when they eventually skip Denver on whatever abbreviated U.S. tour they end up doing. -The Go! Team are such an underrated band. They've consistently put out some terrific albums over the years. Again, they'll skip Denver. -Ibex Clone seems like a board darling-ish band. Can't really pinpoint who they sound like, but I dig it.
tl/dr: good albums by good bands, please play shows in Denver. Thank you for your time.

i've heard some townes van zandt songs over the years, but this is the first album i've listened to. i ran into it a couple weeks ago and had it on while playing a game on my phone. but today i gave it a solid listen and, yeah, pretty good stuff.

I was wondering about the samples on this one, so I went on wiki. Someone named "Pat Shannahan" is credited with sample clearance. Looked her up and found this fascinating interview from 2016 where she talks about her career and the process behind clearing samples. web.archive.org/web/20161023041919/http://laist.com/2016/10/19/pat_shannahan_detective_sampling_interview.php She worked on Ill Communication and Hello Nasty, plus all the Avalanches records (which she talks about a lot here), Odelay, and records for Prince Paul and Shaggy (!). So pretty much the wizard of sample clearance. Sadly, she passed away in 2020. that article was pretty interesting. i always knew avalanches had a mountain of clearing to do, but never thought about who was doing it. it makes sense why they have so many mixes unofficially released.

If I was pressed, I’d probably go with “The Late Great…” because it has “Snow Don’t Fall,” prolly my fave Townes song that still flies under the radar.

www.loudandquiet.com/files/2023/01/cvc-320x320.jpga couple reviews about this piqued my interest when listing out influences from steely dan to earth, wind and fire to neil young. i don't quite hear all of that, but there are some really good songs here with a few big earwormers.

This is Fine. I don't think it deserves to be lumped in the same category with Jet and Greta Van Fleet

It's a really good release day y'all. Here's your mini aotw post I guess.
Black Belt Eagle Scout is my all too early to declare AOTY so far, but the YLT is one of their best ever. Andy Shauf's new one is another fine entry into his catalog. Kelela I haven't gotten to yet, Liv.e's last one was great so I'm expecting this one to be solid, Quasi is the Janet Weiss project that will unquestionably be better than the last Sleater Kinney album, and if you're into Tennis they have a new one as does Paramore which is getting some high praise.
Go get em

And most importantly, it's new Yo La Tengo day!
And even more importantly, glad I bumped up obmit's post count so we can hit that sweet 666 post again

Yeah the new YLT is a career best imo. Glad they got a BNM bc they've been wildly consistent over the years. It's like the perfect marriage of YLT and Sonic Youth you're ever gonna get.
