The hits keep on coming! Side note: this is my wheelhouse of indie rock or whatever. Bands that emerged at the tail end of Peak Indie, put out a great record or two, then disappeared forever.

The hits keep on coming! Side note: this is my wheelhouse of indie rock or whatever. Bands that emerged at the tail end of Peak Indie, put out a great record or two, then disappeared forever. I think Christopher Owens' solo stuff is incredibly underrated. Lysandre has a terrible leitmotif that kind of ruins the album, but there is still some stellar songwriting throughout. Bummer that it basically tanked his shot at a successful solo career since his next two are really great.

It's fine I guess? Nothing rips like You Will Never Work in Television Again or anything. Just mostly midtempo all the way through

Love the new Smile album. Definitely better than the first one though I did enjoy that too

Love the new Smile album. Definitely better than the first one though I did enjoy that too Yeah I liked it a lot too. I think the highs are higher on the debut but this one is rock solid soup to nuts.

Not sure anything will beat the way Bending Hectic rips into the last two minutes for me

Not sure anything will beat the way Bending Hectic rips into the last two minutes for me I was playing it in class while students wrote and one kid stopped what he was doing during Bending Hectic and said "why are you playing a horror movie soundtrack?"

New Katy Kirby is terrific. One of my favorite young songwriters.

Been revisiting Halcyon Digest a lot this week. Hard to find a better three song run in indie rock than Fountain Stairs > Coronado > He Would Have Laughed. And fuckin’ Helicopter comes right before that!

New Katy Kirby is terrific. One of my favorite young songwriters. Gave this a once through and it sounds good overall. Probably need to spin it a few more times before it (hopefully) latches on. Also hoping I don’t drift off to sleep when I see her show(s?) next month.

The Smile - wonderful but it took a few listens for me.
Torres - 50/50 honestly, not enough stands out to recommend.
Katy Kirby - not done with this one but I didn't find it as engaging as the lead up singles lead me to believe.
Ty Segall - too long but good overall.
RAP Ferreira - digging this one, which is good bc I haven't cared much for his output since Purple Moonlight Pages.
Angry Blackmen - pretty intense, gives me early Brockhampton vibes at times.

This is surprisingly solid - easily the best they've done in over a decade.

I'm lettin' it rip this morning. It fucking rules that Yoko had access to the best session musicians / recording budgets in the world and decided to make 16-minute hard-fried freakout jams instead of, like, boring blues rock. I adore this record.

Unfortunately wasn't feeling the new Torres too much. Just kind of midtempo and dull all the way through. Oh well. New Future Islands is fine, songs pretty much all sound the same as they always do, except for a few more slower songs on this one

Pretty great hardcore album from last year I just heard (Agriculture - Agriculture) Edit: SORRY, it is black metal, not hardcore

Ya, Future Islands isn’t a bad band by any means but everything just sounds the same. The two times I’ve seen them live was a blur.

Sure sounds like you guys are describing a bad band. I usually give bands like 3 albums where they can pretty much do the same thing before it gets old, they're definitely past that point now. I was just talking to my friend about the band, we pretty much agreed they're still a good fest band with like a 45 minute set or so, but anything beyond that is just too much of the same thing at this point.

Dude's still a top 5 dancing lead singer though. No one can take that away from him

I just watched that letterman performance for the first time in awhile like 3-4 days ago. They really exploded after that, for a minute.

On first listen the new Sleater-Kinney isn’t bad. There are some lulls, but also some interesting stretches. #Justice4Janet

That Liquid Mike album is great, somewhere between Jeff Rosenstock and Ty Segall. Good stuff. Whoever on here said The Last Dinner Party is the next Wet Leg definitely hit it on the nose. 2 really great songs on the album (Sinner and My Lady of Mercy) and a lot of filler otherwise
