I don’t know what it is verbatim, but Chris Rock had a bit about the margin of error for people of color. Essentially that any mistakes are career-ending, and that was only for public reception of their art, not any issues in their personal lives. nate parker basically does not have a career at this point but we continue to let woody allen and roman polanski make films I actually started off my Film Study class last year with this exact discussion, framing the debate with Nate Parker's The Birth of a Nation as well as parts of the original. Roxane Gay's piece is a powerhouse: Nate Parker and the Limits of Empathy

Regardless of rape accusations that Nat Turner film was completely historically inaccurate and extremely mediocre.

Is there a good example of separating the art from the artist when the artist is a woman? That phrase is almost always used when making excuses for men who have done shitty things, because they also happened to create some good art ("good" as defined generally from the straight while male viewpoint) Simone de Beauvoir was a pedophile who preyed on her students and after she was done with them often let Sartre use them.
