15. Gerald's GameWow this was really great and horrifying. Was only vaguely familiar with the story but this really stuck with me. The hand scene is insane.

King’s description in the book is amazing.

I read too many of King's book too young, but that one in particular should not have been in our middle school library.

Wait Until Dark is lowkey one of the creepiest movies I saw as a kid. Had completely forgotten about it until now.

I actually dry heaved during the hand scene in Gerald's Game and I've been seeing horror movies my entire life and im never affected by gore holy shit I will not watch this, having read the book. One of the only things I've ever read that still sits in my mind as "disturbing' years later. But, catching up with what I've watched: 16. As Above, So Below (2014)
Holy goddamn shit this is so good. Even when the magick shit gets a little shticky it was impossible to ruin the claustrophobic tension Dowdle created. Caving is scary as hell and I am seriously considering bumping The Descent way up my list now. I was definitely going to watch it, but now I want to see it ASAP. 17. Murder Party (2007)
This is a hell of a lot of fun but not much else. rango420 what do you mean homie clearly hated art school? I just don't get the comment.

i watched "new nightmare" best in the series imo even tho freddy looks like a dick tracy villain It takes him WAY too long to show up - but its also like they knew the movie was good and didn't want to cut anything. Big fan of this installment - I know you say he looks like a Dick Tracy villain (and he kinda does) but I appreciated that they tried to make him taller, sleeker, more imposing. I know this is a broken-record complaint but he devovled into such a shitty comedian in the late '80s. Do you like this one more than the original?

oh ya i love the original but the vibe is so insane on this one It is the series' best example of blurring the line between reality/nightmare to the viewer, which makes everything way more tense and the scares are more rewarding, for sure

Just kind of plods along most of the way, and then the ending is a real wild showcase. Didn't really build enough tension throughout to qualify as a slow burn though. Was expecting more consistent fun.

Ok, one last gripe - it gives itself away too much with the combo of the title sequence and the recording!

So I'm not very good at watching 31 horror movies. But I'm watching one tonight. Granted, I've seen it 1000 times, and maybe it's just bc my wife is watching too and I'm gauging her response - but Carpenter's use of sound on the Fog is perfect. It may have average special effects, but the sound makes up for it.
It's still one of my favorites, even if there's some outdated concepts (mostly with the female roles). It's a shame they had to remake it.

18. Friday the 13th Part VI: Jason Lives (1986)
Truly the best of the F13 sequels. Fairly self-aware, but Jason is also actually scary!! Includes the best kill of the entire franchise, when Jason slams a girl's face into the side of a trailer, and you see it from the other side of the trailer. Hope nobody cares that I spoiled something in the 30 year old, sixth installment in the friday the 13th series
