sorry if i missed it earlier but are we actually calling JT a cancellation? it looks like he just never planned on being there in the first place and that rumor was botched.

And yet if history is any indication it'll look pretty good compared to every other fest lineup come 2 months from now I feel like ACL absolutely outdid Coachella last year (at nearly half the price). Given the top-line and number of recycled 2017 festival acts on this line-up, I could easily see several fall/summer fests topping them this year. Aphex Twin and a few other quirky bookings don't elevate it that much. ACL had Lolla 2015's headliners and an undercard that looked like every other fest last year. We're also talking about 2 different brands. I'm with five_hole

Well, we know that 2 of the 3 headliners that were rumored for months were true, so it's safe to assume that the third one was as well. Plus, the news shifted after he cancelled dates due to vocal issues and had to remap his tour. It makes sense that his first (and perhaps contractual) priority would be to complete his LiveNation tour dates, and not a one off festival with their rival. Plus, Ariana is a pop star that fits right in that mold if you were looking for a replacement. If any rumor seems to be BS, it's the "Goldenvoice is reaching out to Pearl Jam" one that came in the wake of that news.

Pearl Jam would have been so out of place on this lineup Basically Weezer and 1975 are the only "rock' bands on the second line

We're also talking about 2 different brands. I'm with five_hole Yes, two of the biggest touring acts in the world as headliners and an undercard that featured most of the best festival acts of 2017 along with some unique bookings. I loved semi-exclusive acts like Soulwax and Jamiroquai at Coachella last year, and Beyonce was an event booking, but ACL was just stacked. And you defined the comparison as festivals, so I don't see what their respective "brands" have to do with it. Whatever the case, I hope they get trumped again this year, because I need something compelling to put my polo field budget towards.

Perfume being buried in the middle of the day (especially when Blackpink is second line) is an injustice. Call it a fad or whatever but K-pop is hotter than J-pop right now and you can’t really conflate the two outside of sharing a continent.

This is not great at all for me. Defs selling my W2 tickets, not worth the expense of getting out to Cali for this. There just seem to be so many misses on artists on tour.

This is the worst lineup I’ve ever seen in my life + Aphex Twin.
If you go to this, you’re dead to me.

Vampire Weekend( though they wouldn’t have saved this lineup)not being booked is beyond dumb when they are at the other AEG fests Hangout and Firefly.

reminder that psycho las vegas is always dope. everyone should worship satan and get into doom metal already this reminds me that I have to see Voivod when the y come to Chicago this yr (I don't actually know for sure if they are on the psycho lv bill), because I think they may have changed in the 20 yrs since I saw them at, I think, the Avalon.

I just like the idea of some of these acts hitting up KC. Anderson .Paak's new album might suck, but I'd still love to see him, and the first leg of the US Oxnard tour ends in Feb, so a second leg around this makes sense. Also Iceage should hit us up since they skipped KC last year, which was unusual. Probably a stretch for a non-festival show for Janelle so close to Open Spaces in October, and I doubt we'll see Yves Tumor or serpentwithfeet here, but I could see Shame, U.S. Girls, and maybe Pusha-T since he cancelled last year.
Also, would love to see Beach Fossils.

i think this lineup makes more sense than the past 2 years. it's pretty much straight up influencer-pop whereas recent years was that but tried to still mix in alt acts like a perfect circle and lush.

Totally makes sense that y’all hate this lineup cuz it’s the first Coachella lineup in memory that I’ve really loved. Not going cuz desert, but hopefully this is a good sign for the local fests.

I do not like judging a fest by its headliners, but in this case, I feel like the traditional rock crowd might be feeling a little more alienated than usual this year.
Also, I understand why Aphex Twin is not the headliner that day, but I do not understand why Aphex Twin is not the headliner that day. LOOOOLLL!!! *head explodes*

I don't hate this line-up but it is not good enough to justify me going for how expensive it'd be, I'm estimating it'd be like $1000ish ($400 for ticket, $600 for lodging) which is pretty crazy. A better headliner than Tame Impala and another #rare or must see act or two (doesn't help that the one rare act is Aphex Twin and I've seen his one US show in however many years) and I'd maybe be on board, and that list of acts could have been pretty large for me personally because a lot of tours didn't hit Houston or some even Texas at all- like Thom Yorke, Massive Attack, Spiritualized, list goes on.
It also hurts a lot for me that some of the acts I'd most want to see are on Friday and I might would have to miss them. I wont be able to get off work until 4 that Friday, and would have to drive from Pasadena to Indio which is a 2 hour drive with traffic...I feel like with both afternoon and fest traffic I'd probably miss everything but maybe the headliner (though I would like to see Gambino, I missed him all last year and he keeps saying this is the last tour)
Will keep an eye on Stubhub prices though. I'll be around both weekends for work so I could last minute do this. But I also really love LA so it takes a little bit to convince me to do something over a free weekend in LA.
here's my count
Friday- 10 Saturday- 8 Sunday- 8
in retrospect that count isn't very high at all. eh.
