i saw harry dean stanton play a concert with michael been (the call) back in the late 80s. dude had a great rough voice and played a mean harmonica.

that is a tough one. charles bradley shows were so much fun.
two years ago i saw him at a fest in wales. it rained all weekend cause it's wales. it was kind of miserable. he starts up and says something like "if we all just think positive and love each other, this rain will stop and the beautiful sun will come out for us." ten minutes later, the sun was out. it went away again after his set and didn't come back out the rest of the weekend.

Sadly never got to see him perform (was gonna see him at Octfest before he understandably had to cancel). Every video I've seen has been staggering, though.
I'm glad that in the later part of his life the dude got to live out the dreams he worked for years to achieve.

Had to awkwardly break the news to multiple people tonight and was pretty fucked up all day about this. Have had some cancer scares in the family recently so had some fairly emotional breaks about CB/Dave Rosser and existence in general. Charles Bradley meant a whole lot to me. I used to see him wandering around the neighborhood i lived in in NY and he always seemed to have so much spirit and it was like seeing elvis. I was blessed with the privilege to see him live as many times as i did. I was wearing my dap kings shirt this morning when I heard the news. This sucks so much. A shining light in the universe is gone.

We heard from Shovels and Rope onstage at Pilgrimage. Really upsetting.
It was a small comfort to hear the news with the person I saw this set with.
Charles Bradley channeled pure love. May he rest.

Charles Bradley is/was a wonderful example of never, ever giving up. The guy wasn't discovered until he was 62 years old and went on to play the main stage at Lollapalooza among other major festivals. If there's an afterlife, I can only assume he's there jamming with Sharon Jones.
