Sixpoint brewed a hazy IPA that's 4% ABV and 99 calories. It's not bad and I appreciate the effort, but it's not quite something I'd want to buy again.

what are the hot spot KC breweries? gonna be goin there next month. Depends on what you like. Boulevard- fairly inoffensive beers, i.e. safe. Tank 7 is their flagship and its excellent, especially on draft. I'm a sour drinker so I prefer the Hibiscus Gose and various others from there. Smokestack series is great too, you'll fine some higher abv in those too. Lot of folks are enjoying the limited release Smooth Fuzz (apricot sour) and Hold the Pancakes (legit tastes like breakfast) BKS - this is in Brookside and it's a tiny operation, with some highlights. Their Vacation Island sour series is great. Their Amusement Sour IPA is getting rave reviews but I have yet to try it. New Axiom - this is in Lee's Summit and has been a mixed bag. On the one hand they had a berliner weisse called Crimson Bog that was phenomenal. At like 6.8, I finished a crowler by myself and was good the whole day. But I did their 16 pour flight and some of them were bad. On the upside they have a lot of variety. Downside, it's in Lee's Summit which is a bit of a hike. Crane - in Raytown, and my current go to brewery bc they specialise in sours. Right now they have a lot more IPAs with the Trailsmith being a popular one. Small ball saison is also big. Their flagship beer is the Tea Weiss, a brewed tea infused sour, and their beet weiss, a beet sour tho it's not on tap. They have dry hopped sours too, which I've found IPA drinkers love bc its tart and juicy, right now in bottles they have their Gooseberry dry hopped sour which I haven't tried but their Orange Gose dry hopped sour was amazing. If you go on the weekend they serve Harp BBQ which is new to KC and is pretty great. Raytown is a shitty part of town tho. KC Bier Co - a lot of people like their stuff, but that's bc its closer to piss water beers like Michelob and Natty Lite. Have not liked any of their stuff, not even their Hefeweizen but they are fairly popular. Cinder Block - more safe beers but in a good way. Safe and reliable. Carried at most places. They have some decent ciders. Servaes - this is in Shawnee and fairly new. They have a daiquiri smoothie sour series that I tried one of and it was tasty but wrecked my stomach for days. Rest of their stuff is good but nothing that stands out. Lighter stuff mostly. City Barrel - this is a new one in the crossroads area that is getting a lot of attention but I haven't been yet. Dude couldn't bottle before opening bc of the govt shutdown so he just gave it all away for free on the opening day. Very popular right now. Torn Label - been a staple for kc for the last 4 years and they have a hazy IPA called Magic Magic that a lot of folks really love. I'm a big fan of their seasonal Tongue Lash which is (surprise) a really tart and funky dry hopped sour. Great summer beer. Free State - out in Lawrence (40 mins West) and its basically the reason I started drinking craft beer. Their Copperhead Pale Ale, Veruca Salt Sour, Oatmeal Stout, and Guavatas Sour are my favorites but everyone loves the Ad Astra. Plus Lawrence is a cool town. For a good sampling, I'd say do Taps on Main as they have some local stuff usually around. It's one of those pay by the ounce with like 40 taps. Good stuff.

I went to the Crossroads Craft Beer Fest in KC on Saturday.
My 'winners' were Boulevard (like Timbo said, these all safe choices), Martin City Brewery (Violet Carson Rose Ale), Casual Animal (Cezanne), and Brewery Emperial (Ginger Shandy).

Haven't had much of their stuff. Manhattan is where Tall Grass is and they had some great releases like Jam Band and Buffalo Sweat but like a year ago they shut down distribution so you can only get their stuff at the taproom. Kinda like Side Project out of STL. Here's a handy guide that just got published yesterday: www.435mag.com/your-guide-to-all-the-breweries-within-an-hour-of-kansas-city/Brewery Emperial was awful when I went a few weeks ago. Only had outdoor seating and it was like 90 out, every dish we ordered was suddenly "86'd" by the chef after we ordered it. Something easy like Fish and Chips. On the flipside I got a sour cherry stout from there a few months ago and it was pretty dang tasty.

I went to get a growler of the Ginger Shandy at Emperial and I was not impressed with the place either. I have not eaten there.

I understand that this is not about beer but does anyone know if you can get Pimms in the US before I start calling local liquor stores?

what are the hot spot KC breweries? gonna be goin there next month. Everything Tim said is spot-on, I wouldn't disagree with a single point he's made. That being said, I wanted to comment on hanging out vs. drinking beer - Torn Label is mayyyyyyybe my favorite KC brewery? But hanging out there can be a hassle. The tap room is really small, and extremely low-lit. At least once or twice that we've gone, we've just had one beer and dipped cause there wasn't really space for us. Boulevard easily has the best taproom in the city, paired with their consistently better-than-good beer, it's probably the place we frequent the most. The Crossroads breweries are all fairly easy to hop between (Torn Label, Casual Animal, Double Shift, Grinders, City Barrel, etc.) and you can also eat at Parlor, the new-ish food hall that's right there in the Crossroads. Bird scooters are the best way to get around down there if you don't feel like walking. We always end up at Casual Animal a ton simply because they've got good beer, free peanuts, a bunch of board games, a shuffleboard table, and you can "shoot the dice" - pay a buck to roll a Yahtzee, basically. If you lose, your dollar goes in the jar. If you win, you get however much is in the jar. It's usually a couple hundred.

Yeah it's pretty readily available. Various family members kept telling me it was impossible to find in the US which seemed like bullshit so thank you for validating my decision to not buy any at duty free

Maybe they just frequent corner liquor stores or something.
I had never had Pimm's prior to my first Nola trip, and what a glorious introduction it was.

any Chicagoans going to this? When I was out East earlier this year Burley Oak was one of the best that I swung by and sampled. Granted, yes, they do a lot of sours, but their JREAM series will blow you away. Soo good.
