$171 million if the option gets picked up.
And I have zero issues with a player bitching on behalf of his teammate.

2019 is apparently the worst draft in over a decade, and every player is signing an extension before free agency. The Sox timed this rebuild well.

I've been trying to get back into college baseball this year, and that Andrew Vaughn kid looks like a monster. Hopefully he's available when the Sox pick.

Owner of the Indians said they will only sign players to $300 million deals when other teams are signing players to $1 billion dollar deals. The future of baseball is bright.

I mean, do please let Lindor go somewhere I can actually cheer for him, but the Athletic article that quote came from is pretty damning.

Seriously!
"What do you say to fans about Lindor?"
"Enjoy him while you can."
wtf

Seriously! "What do you say to fans about Lindor?" "Enjoy him while you can." wtf Dolan’s optics in that interview are galling - my friends and I have been furious all week. But it’s nothing new to us, just frustrating to see it laid out so pompously.

I’d say I want him to sell the team - because it’s ridiculous that he still owns them if he can’t afford to spend to compete while in the midst of the best competitive window we may ever have.... but I’m terrified a new owner won’t be as committed to the city of Cleveland as he is. We’ve been there before as a city, and that would just crush me.

I will say this much more - fan enthusiasm is wildly low for a division-favored team. People noticed how we basically spent this offseason cutting payroll and ditching players like Gomes and Yandy Diaz, while not materially improving the OF or the bullpen.... and attendance might get real ugly if they start slow. I personally haven’t been this unenthused for the start of a baseball season since the pre-2013 years.

Full quote -
The Indians have never handed out a contract heftier than the $60 million pact they granted Edwin Encarnacion two years ago. They control Francisco Lindor for the next three seasons, but he’ll likely command a deal four, five or even six times more lucrative than what the Indians guaranteed Encarnacion.
So, does owner Paul Dolan envision himself ever signing a player to, say, a 10-year, $300 million deal?
“No, but I never foresaw us doing a deal like we did with Encarnacion,” Dolan said in his spring-training office during a recent sit-down interview with The Athletic. “You don’t know. Probably the day when we do a deal like that is when somebody else is doing $1 billion deals with somebody else.”
What, then, would he advise to fans who are already growing unsettled about Lindor’s future in Cleveland?
“Enjoy him,” Dolan said. “We control him for three more years. Enjoy him and then we’ll see what happens.”

Yeah the Cubs got a great deal there. The last two off-seasons might have scared him a bit.

It really is and I'm ecstatic that the Cubs extended an actually good, non-problematic player for once
