It makes sense - no way they'd give up that much to not try to keep him on an extension. Not sure what his market would be since he's over 30.

Looks like it's 5 years, 150 mil.
I'm super happy for him. I was worried he would get injured before getting a huge payday, since he took a huge discount when he signed that early extension with the Sox.

Yeah they optioned Delmonico as well.
Luis Robert is being assigned to A ball. Is he still that far away?

I assumed it was just for a month or so since he was constantly injured last year, and that he would spend a large majority of the season in AA.

Astros extended Verlander, 2/66.

This has gotta be a record for March extensions, especially those of the $100M+ variety.

The Cubs optioned Ian Happ for some reason. That's gotta be temporary.

So happy for Eloy. A week later and now he finally is ready for the majors and he even can now afford Vampire Weekend tickets!

The Cubs optioned Ian Happ for some reason. That's gotta be temporary. On the one hand, he has some major holes in his swing, and the Cubs are crowded enough that getting him regular playing time, let alone enough to fix that, is tricky. On the other, I'm still quite surprised by this.

How have Kimbrell and Kuechel not taken whatever the best offer they have on the table at this point? Take the highest 1 year deal you can get and try again next year.

Wonder if they'll go the Le'veon Bell route on this one rather than risk getting hurt on a team that doesn't matter, and then sign with the MLB equivalent of the Jets (the D-Backs?)

After the Greg Holland debacle last year I'm surprised this is happening again, but here we are.

I've heard Kimbrel is willing to sit.
Only other reason is they're still convinced they can get a multi-year offer if any pitchers go down early.

I don't think it's reasonable to think the offers are going to improve now that they won't even be available for a full season, but that's just me. It would be a shame if these guys don't play this year.

It will be a shame. I can't say I wouldn't be this stubborn if I were in their shoes, though.

After the Greg Holland debacle last year I'm surprised this is happening again, but here we are. Exactly why I would be worried about waiting to take one of them, but given that he bounced back immediately with the Nationals, maybe that was just a Cardinals issue.

It will be a shame. I can't say I wouldn't be this stubborn if I were in their shoes, though. Something is wrong in this sport when a top-5 reliever and a top-20 starter can't get a good contract to play by Spring training, let alone now

Dallas Keuchel is not a top 20 starter though. He's basically a younger J.A. Happ, who got 2/34 with a vesting option. Eovaldi got 4/68, so it seems like a 17 mil AAV is perfectly fair.
IIRC he wanted at least 5/100, which isn't happening.

Both of their original reported asking prices were unrealistic, but that's not uncommon. They should both have found deals by now.

Okay for sure now it's a record for huge March extensions. Maybe Thor will shut up now.
