Yeah, I don't mind it. Intentional or not, you avoid some of the unrest by having him with the major league team at the start of the season and have your top asset locked up for a reasonable salary for 8 years. For Eloy, you get MLB money from the jump and guaranteed money until the free agency period that'll come up when he's still in his prime.

Two options would make it $75 million over 8 years.

I have a feeling we're going to hear a lot of amazing stories about him over the next few days.

Gonna be weird not having Ichiro in baseball. There's a bobblehead of him from the Sox All-Star game somewhere in my parent's place. Still think he's the only non-Cub I have baseball stuff of

Yeah, I read that when it was first published, it's very compelling, I would definitely recommend it as well.

Still think he's the only non-Cub I have baseball stuff of I had an Ichiro bobblehead I got as a SGA while watching the Sox vs. the Mariners in 2011. We decided to de-clutter this year so I sold it on ebay. Got $45, not bad!

At this rate, every player will be extended before the 28th.

At this rate, every player will be extended before the 28th. I can't prove this but I do bet that with Trout no longer in play everyone is now going to sign their best players to try and build a team around

I was just joking with my friend earlier this week about the Tigers going after Trout and look what I've done.

Yeah every one of these guys that signs an extension just means that the price keeps going up for Mookie Betts, who seems determined to hit FA no matter what

lol
That prediction I had of the Sox signing Puig to a $200 million contract is coming closer to reality because he'll be the only free agent of note left.

I feel like this Goldy deal might have been the first panic move. He has been great - but was a 32 year old first basemen getting $130mm this coming off-season?

It's def a bit of an overpay in light of what JD got last year. But good for Goldy, players need to get there slice of the pie one way or another.

Oh I'm totally on the players side and happy to see this- it's just that aging first basemen is the one spot that there isn't a huge market for, especially when he has a prove it year ahead of him.
I mean, he's going to be a year older than Kimbrel and that market has evaporated.

Jason Heyward's agent is not doing his job if he's not on the phone with Theo 3 times a day trying to get a 5 year extension on top of the 5 years they still have to pay him

Glad they are keeping him. It will be interesting to see what happens with Betts and Bogaerts.
