With the opt out it almost feels like he's betting on himself to have a couple of good weeks. Pitchers always get hurt in April so it could pay off. Counterpoint - one of the most likely pitchers to get hurt in April is Gio Gonzalez Gio has been pretty durable in his career. The opt out is pretty standard for veterans signing minor league deals. Yeah you are right on the opt out. When j first read the details it sounded like the date was independent of being brought up to majors, which sounded believable given that the Yankees only needed him until late April.

I know it's petty, but doing this while still this offseason, could this please be Trout sniping at Harper?

That is an impressive sum of money. Are they going to have any left to improve from the 80ish wins they've had almost every year for the past decade?

Pujols doesn't come off the books for like 3 years, right?
That pitching staff is dreadful, too. Good for him, but the future of that team is kind of bleak.

Rob Manfred needs to step in and prevent the angels for wasting the entirety of trout and ohtani’s careers immediately

Michael Fulmer needs TJ surgery as well. He's like the only good player on the Tigers, right?

Tough break, couldn't even beat Eloy's fake contract.

And, for probably the only time this season, I led my league in points. Thank you, Dee Gordon.

He'd start the season in MLB with this deal. Sox are apparently saying sending him to Charlotte was to give him more at-bats before the season.
Anyyyyyyyway, this is weird!

I feel like it's spending money for the sake of spending money. They had him locked up for essentially 7 years anyway, so they bought an extra year of control?

That sounds like way too much money for an 8 year deal for a player with zero service time.

Honestly no idea what he'd end up making in arbitration, so this might be a good deal for both sides.
