its not a question of whether or not lolla wants to book coldplay; the paycheck for 2 nights at soldier field is far more lucrative than whatever lolla could (or, would) offer them they could try, but for coldplay? idk its just not exactly groundbreaking and they've had their play. maybe on the down-swing. i have no data, but im curious which acts have ever played soldier field, then lolla (within a span of 2-3 years) Metallica played Lolla, and then Soldier Field. I know that's the opposite of what you asked. Paul McCartney played 2 nights at Wrigley and then played lolla 3 or 4 years later. these are both great answers. my only rebuttal would be that neither of those acts had played lolla in its current incarnation (and one rarely played US festivals at all) which made them both relatively groundbreaking for the chicago fest now that that money's been spent, i don't think lolla will continue to pursue those acts

I'd love to compare the vendor sales between 2016 and now. But I wouldn't be surprised to see Lolla go after the olds again.

If there's a dollar to be put on any old band, I think it would be GNR (as indicated on the last page)

The Rihanna guesses intrigue me. My only research is typing "Rihanna festival" into setlist.fm, but it looks like she's only played 4 US festivals in her entire career. I don't disagree that it'd be a good booking at this point, I just wouldn't necessarily speculate it.

Danny Brown will never be a Lolla headliner but you bet your ass I would fly in to Chicago for that day and leave early the next morning just to see him if he ever did.

I'd bet a couple popstars headline next year but I don't think we'll be fortunate enough for Rih Rih to be one of them. Aim lower folks

Tool is def better suited for Riot Fest at this point. I would love to see RF book like, Fugazi / Green Day / Tool / Nick Cave / Smashing Pumpkins / Alice in Chains and brand themselves Riot Fest '96

I wonder if Rihanna burned bridges with C3 when she pulled out of Lollapalooza Colombia, which eventually collapsed the entire festival.

Would Lolla make the jump to BTS? Seems like a Coachella kind of thing to try first. I wouldn't be surprised to see them (or similar bands) on the lineup soon though.

They subbed the north end in 2016. Totally believable that they’re headliners next year considering they will have released two albums since then

Totally believable that they’re headliners next year considering they will have released two albums since then I should clarify: I don't think Lolla will pony up headliner money for HAIM (if that's what they'll be asking). I also wouldn't say their live show has proven worthy of that slot in Grant Park. I like HAIM a lot, but it'd be a real boring choice.

It would certainly be an easy way to guarantee a sell out that day, but the crowd would largely be below drinking age so I don't know how profitable that booking would be.

I mentioned that he didn’t seem interested in touring this year post-broadway. I think he stated he was taking a break till the end of the year. I could see him playing if they give him a big enough slot on the schedule. In a new interview with Italian newspaper la Repubblica, Bruce Springsteen has elaborated on his future plans for the E Street Band. “We will go on tour next year,” he said. “I’ll record with the E Street Band in autumn and, when we are done, we’ll go on tour. Of course I’ll come to Rome. I love it.” www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/bruce-springsteen-e-street-band-tour-840807/
