Just wondering if we should even bother with Black Friday lite anymore

Yes, it should still be celebrated because it gets me two days off of my lousy work without using any extra VA time

It is the worst holiday.

I like it as the less religious based holiday than Easter and Christmas. Plus I Iove to cook and get a kick out of challenging my wife's family by bringing non-traditional dishes.

Yes, the food and good times make it worth. Having two days off work is a giant plus too.

It's all just stressful. Give the day off to Election Day.

My favorite holiday. I get to eat a lot, enjoy family, and not have to stress about buying gifts.

See all my family is just so fractured at this point I don't even know where I'm having dinner at this point. There's also, uh, the colonialism aspect of it which is a little tough to ignore.
On the other hand, footbaw and food.

No gifts, no denominational religious under/overtones, and leading into a long weekend are all huge positives.

Good point. The older I get the more I realize how manipulative and abusive a lot of my family members are.
Excited to host three of them (including one two year old) in my 750 sq ft apartment for three days!

I generally hate Thanksgiving but I've grown to appreciate it more now that I don't travel at all for the holiday. We've made it a holiday with friends for the last 6 or 7 years and that is very much preferable to the cluster fuck of what it used to be.

I enjoy eating and it's a holiday that might as well be about eating so why not
Also, we need more official holidays so more days off work. Not less.

I love thanksgiving though I didn’t care for it when I was around my toxic family every year. It’s much better now that I don’t do that

any problems anyone has with thanksgiving is of their own creating. chilling with people close to you and eating and drinking while not having to go to work is inherently good.

I had a Thanksgiving that resulted in my dad not talking to me for 3 months because he was insulted I brought cheese.

I mean, the purported reasoning or history for the holiday is bad, but the getting together with family and friends and eating delicious food and shopping and being off work is good, so it's a net positive for me.

My mom is flying into Greenville Tuesday night and said she wasn't going to come down and then said she was going to uber up to stay with my brother in Charlotte when she landed because I said "I guess" when she told me that my brother and nephew and now staying in my small ass apartment three nights instead of one and asked if that was ok.
Two days later she called me and pretended that it never happened.

Man, what kind of cheese was it?? It was an aged cheddar or something like that? He thought I was showing him up. The family photos from later that evening are great.

Traveling is a pain, but other than that I love Thanksgiving since it’s a just about eating, drinking and spending time with family.

lol shitty family experiences are of our own creating. Alrighty. you just don’t have thanksgiving with those people. Seems like that’s what you’re doing now. Don’t see how that would make thanksgiving bad.
