I think then maybe it’s not your fifth year in a row Fair enough, we'll be attempting to complete dry January for the 5th year in a row. We have been successful 3 out of the last 4 years (every year where we weren't forced out of our house due to a pipe bursting in the middle of winter during a pandemic, while trying to learn how to be new parents).

I’m doing it again. I don’t know how many years in a row it has been but I typically give myself one cheat day and last year I used it to celebrate the inauguration.
Mrs. Doso announced she was starting Dry January today on Jan. 2, and I almost joined her, but I totally didn’t feel like drinking yesterday. Definitely gonna have some homemade orgeat syrup that will have to be tossed out. Should’ve made a few more mai tais.

Just ordered a 30 pack of NA beer from Athletic Brewing because it's nice to have something when the temptation hits. I have no idea how it tastes so I may end up stuck with 30 cans of shitty tasting water.

I tried a sixer of Athletic and didn’t care for it. I was gonna try the Brooklyn Beer nonalcoholic amber ale but I slipped it in a reusable bag at the grocery store, set it down to grab a carton of milk, and promptly forgot it.
I also made a small batch of rosemary syrup which I’m using to make grapefruit-rosemary spritzers which are also very boring.

I found out that caper juice simulates the taste of alcohol when mixed with a mocktail, and it genuinely does work. You know, if you have caper juice laying around. Pickle juice would probably work in a pinch.

I honestly can't remember the last time I made it more than a few days without any alcohol, which is kind of sad. It's not like I'm binge drinking but I'd enjoy a couple beers here and there. Even past attempts at Dry January have been half-assed.
So yeah, I'm kind of happy about my progress so far.

I have no idea how it tastes so I may end up stuck with 30 cans of shitty tasting water. Overall not bad! There’s a weird aftertaste that I most closely associate with the smell from brewery tours, but the flavor is pretty good on some of the beers. Glad I got a variety pack - best of the bunch are the stout, blonde and hazy IPA.

Doing another whole 30 to start off the year. Might smoke some weed here and there, but totally fine to give up alcohol for a month. Definitely happy to reset my body eating healthy, always eat like shit over the holidays

Today's been the hardest day by far with there basically being nothing to do during the CPS work stoppage. I'm gonna order the beer water that scoots recommended.

I chunked it. Had wine last night.
But I did get two six-packs of NA Beer from Athletic. Their hefeweizen wasn't very good but I actually really liked the cerveza. Once I ran out of those, Dry January became quite difficult.

How's everyone doing so far? Kind of in the home stretch! Still going but it’s getting tough. I had more than a few beers during the winter classic on Jan. 1 so I’m trying to make it an extra week to Feb. 5.

It's a terrible reason to drink alcohol, but it doesn't help that I've been bored to tears for the past month. I tried a six pack of NA Brooklyn Brewery that was not just bad, but it also gave me an instant headache. I tried the Athletic Run Wild IPA and I like it 10 times better than their Free Wave IPA, so that's something.
Thinking about extending into February, too.

Binny's sent me a 10% off coupon (I'm sure the timing was intentional), so I made a run and re-stocked the house today. It's almost impossible to find Weller that isn't ridiculously marked up these days, so I decided to pick up a bottle of Wilderness Trail's wheated. Looking forward to cracking that open on Tuesday.

I’ve only had three cocktails this month (on three separate occasions while dining out) and I seem to have become more or less acclimated to the two standard Athletic IPAs (Run Wild and Free Wave). Unfortunately, Athletic charges mid-tier craft brewery prices, so I’m not really saving much. And I haven’t lost much weight. But I guess I’ll keep it up for now. I’ve come to realize that it’s more the taste of beer and cocktails I crave. Once in a while I’d like that buzzed feeling, sure, but I don’t find myself wishing I was inebriated.

Athletic six-packs are $10-$11 at stores around here versus $13 online, so I just usually go with whatever is available at the liquor store. I've already decided I'll probably keep some of them in constant rotation just so I have a nice option when I'm craving another beer at the end of the night.
Last two weeks have been tough - would have loved a beer this weekend, especially. Overall I'm pretty proud of myself for sticking with this.

I’ve been picking up sixers at the bodega and the grocery store and I also had some delivered via Drizly. All those options were more expensive than ordering direct with free delivery. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
