What's everyone's day look like? I think I'm going Action Bronson > DFA > Ministry > Dinner > Vic Mensa > NIN. Rolling solo for most of the day so come by if you see my head above the crowd. My day is very similar but I will be seeing New Order instead of Vic. I'll look for you at Action Bronson.

I'm at the two main stages all day unless I decide to see Saul Williams instead of X.

I'll be in there around 1:30 for INVSN. I don't expect to see many of you at Four Year Strong, but anyone else doing Hotelier after that?
Then, of course, I'll be at the main stages from DFA --> NIN.
I'm excited to see you guys!

It's been two years since I've been to Douglas Park Is there a decent amount of shade at the fest ?

No shade. I wouldn't say it's oppressively hot but the sun is scorching.

Shade is hard to find, but beer gives the illusion of all your wildest desires

Holy shit that NIN set
Rest of the day was pretty great. Food options were alright. There were some good shade spots, but none at the main stage.

Looks like you guys got a really good setlist. More songs in one set than either of the NYC shows (by 2 for Pano, by 1 for Webster). Glad they played Somewhat Damaged and 1,000,000 for you guys since those two songs are just so great live. How was The Background World? Did they do the whole outro?

Thoughts from day 1:
They left the layout the same as last year, which is great because I didn't have to spend any time figuring out where anything was. Once again logistically they did a great job, no/short lines to get in, for bathrooms, beer, etc. They also continue to make little improvements, like adding real water stations by the water fountain behind the Ferris wheel.
I enjoyed every set I saw, and appreciated that New Order went back to their festival set and played all the hits. NIN was amazing as always, the bare bones setup worked well.
Great seeing a bunch of you again, and meeting some new faces as well. Looking forward to doing it all over again today.

Thoughts from day 1: no/short lines to get in, for bathrooms, beer, etc. The line to get in was ridiculously long around 2:30 and seemingly for a while after. Luckily I came from the Kedzie El stop and like an asshole cut the line just before entering the serpentine chute so I missed most of it. And it isn't the fault of Riot Fest but who are the hordes of people buying CTA passes at the end of the night?

i strolled in at 1:30 and there was only a very short line. INVSN sounded great. but i like t(i)nc and refused, so i expected as much. between standing in line for water and a t-shirt (lines on north side of the merch tent were horrendous), i missed basically all of liars and some of x. but x sounded terrible from what i eventually did see.
buzzcocks were good with their usual set. DFA was great. i hadn't seen them since 2005 and was really impressed. ministry was ok, i guess. new order's setlist wasn't my favorite, but they were fine.
and NIN was terrific. i had a nice spot about 50 feet back dead center. but it was so rowdy with position jockeying. i started to leave during "burning bright" and ended up pushing my way backward through the crowd during "the hand that feeds." definitely should've stayed in my spot instead. good first day.

new order was a good time but their setlist was bullshit. "disorder" sounded good but hooky does a better "love will tear us apart"

Having never seen New Order I was very happy with that set, but I agree the JD songs don't really hit.

Apparently there was a secret NIN show last night at some undisclosed warehouse in the south loop. Did AB make it to the show?

Day 1 was fantastic. Great weather, awesome tunes. Only bad part was missing most of DFA. From what I heard, they were sounding great. The Liars set took me by surprise and I'll be checking out more of their stuff. NIN was definitely the highlight. We were right in the thick of it, dancing like fools. If anyone happens upon my liver, kindly return it to me, thx.

Late start for us today, plus going into Saturday with a bad case of Festival Cough. You know how it is Peaches -> Shabazz Palaces / Dead Cross -> Bad Brains -> Danzig -> Mike D -> Wu-Tang Clan -> Queens

Much bigger crowd than i expected today. Fantastic QotSA set of course. Had to ask a woman in front of me to stop taking videos right before what turned out to be the last song. She probably took about 12 before that...
I'm sad that the two acts I care about the most tomorrow (TVOTR and MIA) are both on the stage I like the least

I don't understand the correlation but for some reason all NIN fans are heavy smokers.

Also, I wonder how much Peaches got in trouble for her set... I fully expect to get sent to Facebook jail when I post my pictures in a couple of days. Checks out. Babby's a big gypsy punk fan. edit: Actually, it appears that loud fast rules with this kid, whose favorite sets so far have been Ministry and Dead Cross.
