Why did queens end early? That was some bullshit. I was so confused when they started Song for the Dead with twenty minutes left.

Just to clarify, it wasn't like one popped out, they were completely out for a good half hour. For reference, when Lady Gaga first performed at Lolla, she got a ticket for indecent exposure for just being in lingerie on the side stage.

Also, how the fuck did NFG get one of the biggest crowds I saw all weekend?? Eh, makes sense to me. They have 3 or 4 huge songs that everyone in this fest's demographic knows. So, for most people, that automatically gives them the edge over the alternatives. Isn't it kind of the same situation as Third Eye Blind at Lolla?

Thoughts from day 2:
Man, that sun kicked my ass yesterday.
Once again no/short lines for almost everything, although I did have to wait about 10 minutes to fill up my CamelBak. I enjoyed most of what I saw, but that Mike D set was awful. When I walked up he was singing over "No Sleep 'Til Brooklyn", which is more or less what I expected. After that however, he proceeded to just play other artists songs and act as a hype man. I decided to leave after about 10 minutes of this.
Queens were good (why didn't they play until 10?), but I felt like ATDI was the best set I saw yesterday. Cedric is still a madman on stage, even more so than the last time I saw them 5 years ago at Lolla.
I plan on heading back down after the Bears game, hopefully in time for Built to Spill. I have an extra pass for today if anyone wants to go, HMU.

it took forever to find a place where the sound was good but once i did queens ruled. Sound was horrible all day basically. the 2nd main stage and the stage new found glory stage were the only good sound all weekend. ATDI sound was terrible from where i was, but i stood in almost the exact same spot the day before for DFA and it was great. frustrating.

Anyone else getting there in time for Beach Slang? I'll be there alone, wearing a maroon shirt with bleach stains all over it. Come say hi!

Would have loved to have seen him join Fidlar for Sabotage. Missed opportunity.

Fidlar are a pretty dumb band.

Fidlar's opening cover was best part of the set, and we left soon after. Day two was a recovery day for me. I thought Black Pistol Fire sounded pretty good. Finally felt decent enough for crowds to get up in the Gogol pit. Atdi sounded great from where we were. But I agree, the sound was real hit-and-miss both days. There was very bad sound bleed where we were for Queens. Otherwise that was a great set.
I'm all over the place today. If you see a goony guy in a blue Superman shirt, backpack and gray dingy hat, come say hi and drink some beers.

Paramore was of course a true Lituation. Best set of the fest besides NIN. Caught a pick but it turned out to just say 'Fender' and wasn't branded. Boo.

I thought Paramore was pretty awful, but every other set I saw today and through the rest of the weekend was good. I probably should have just stayed at Profit$ of Rage.
Hot Water Music was really the only full set I saw all day today, but that was fantastic. Otherwise only saw bits and pieces of a bunch of sets.

Never seen RVIVR, but they're a PNW band so they're in Portland constantly. I'll definitely make a point to see them soon based on this and a few other recommendations.

Wretched and I started talking about this last night, but where does the fest go from here? Fugazi? Smashing Pumpkins? The real Rage Against the Machine?
Sure, they're eventually going to run out of bands to reunite, but they've kind of put themselves in a position where people are going to be disappointed if there isn't at least one huge reunion every year.

|
Post by claypoolfan on Sept 18, 2017 7:45:17 GMT -6
I think if they can still pull big names then the whole reunion thing isn't a dealbreaker. They didn't have any big reunions in 2014 or 2015 and those were some of the best lineups they've had.
