Figured there's enough of us going to this bad boy that it deserves it's own thread! I also wanted a space to share any lineup discoveries / explorations and of course any news, tips, etc. regarding the fest. Let's go!!!

My new aim in wanting to create this thread is to kick off what will hopefully be a several months-long series: Monastery Better Knows The Prima Lineup! I made a list this morning of acts on here that either I've a.) never heard before or b.) have heard very sparingly - but I want to know better before fest time (or even fest year...)
I plan on dedicating a week to each of the artists below, depending on the size of their discography, and want to hear y'all's recommendations, concert recollections, thoughts, etc. etc. etc. about them. And y'all should solicit similar requests too! Anyways, here's my initial list:
Better Know The Lineup Candidates: - Massive Attack - DJ Shadow - Autechre - Bikini Kill - Jeff Mills - Gorillaz - Einstürzende Neubauten - Jawbox - Big Freedia - Les Savy Fav - Napalm Death - Otoboke Beaver - Rina Sawayama - Turnstile - Lightning Bolt - Tropical Fuck Storm - Abbath - Squarepusher
And I've decided to start off w/ DJ Shadow. Been listening to Endtroducing... today and been really into it. Otherwise, I only know his RTJ collab "Nobody Speak." Kinda curious what a set of his would look like, i.e. would it be heavy on newer material? My assumption is that listening to Endtroducing is not super representative of his current live sound. But maybe it is? Anyone seen him lately?

Haven’t seen him recently but Endtroducing is literally an all time classic album

lotsa good stuff! listening to bikini kill for a week would be repeating the same songs 100 times i think lol
inches is the classic les savy fav album, i would say. my fav lightning bolt albums are ride the sky and wonderful rainbow though the last one they put out was great too and presumably will factor heavily into their set.
also, at primavera, don't overlook the live electronic and dj stuff as those are often the artists least likely to tour the us sometime and the setup there (when i went) was cool. it's worth checking out a trance inducing dj from france on the live electronic stage instead of seeing parquet courts or whoever again.

monastary - Try not to miss LIGHTNING BOLT unless they are against something #rare, they are a very fun and wild live band usually. I don't know if Rina Sawayama is in your wheelhouse, but I really loved her album from last year.
I'm hoping Sofia Kourtesis does some US shows, she said this show will be her first ever, so I guess I'll have to wait

Massive Attack - Blue Lines and Mezzanine are usually regarded as their best records.

I will be at this festival and appreciate these artist dives and will probably do some of my own
Related, I'm pretty annoyed we've heard no concrete info on Prima LA

On this note, have to give a HUGE rec to check out Wata Igarashi, their recorded stuff is fire, and their live show is one of the most overwhelming (in the best way possible) live electronic sets I've ever seen. Will be a must see for me

I'm almost wholly unfamiliar w/ the electronic scene, but would love to check out an act or two each day, given how deep this lineup looks

Meanwhile, I started digging around the smaller font of W1 and found my first cool discovery of the lineup: Carolina Durante, who, despite the name, are a Madrid-based band of four dudes playing some dudes-rock garage sounding tunes. And they pull it off! Kinda like those hazy early Twin Peaks records but a little more propulsive and occasionally anthemic?
Here's their first big single, from 2018:
And here's the opener from their 2019 debut LP:
It's pretty cool stuff! Could be a fun, local, rowdy crowd too

Just talked with the boss, I may have clearance to go to this! I am definitely leaning towards weekend 2, even before they added Phoenix, so I'mma see if I can make this happen

I got my W2 pass over the weekend (with the insurance lol).
A year is a long time to wait, but a chance to see Queen Dua and our Lorde and savior on the same weekend is too tempting to miss.

Alright, low ticket warning went up for W2, so I grabbed one. Let’s do this.

from PS FB: "Their concert on June 8th in the Poble Espanyol will be a tribute to Going Blank Again and their performance on June 9th in the Parc del Fòrum will revolve around Nowhere."

Poble Espanyol was the original venue for the festival and it's a open-air architectural museum. Will be a very cool venue to see Ride in.

All tickets now sold out, or so they say!And an interesting tidbit for those of you who like to know such things: "In just over a week, the festival has sold its 200,000 tickets, which guarantees a full house for each of the six days of concerts at the Parc del Forum with 80,000 people per day."
