So I was actually at the tournament today! Some thoughts:
1. Horrible logistics, I got there at 10:55 and waited in the world's longest / most disorganized line for almost two hours until I was finally inside the grounds. Hopefully they sort this out for the rest of this week - tho today will likely be my only day there.
2. Going Day 1 was something I've always wanted to do, and it was fantastic! I had upperdeck Ashe tickets, but spent most of my afternoon bouncing around the Grandstand and sidecourts seeing some great players super-up-close. Caught 5-seed Andrey Rublev take out 6'11 Ivo Karlovic at Grandstand - was really impress with Andrey's baseline game. Also caught 8-seed Casper Ruud from Norway, who I was not previously familiar with. He was playing a qualifier b/c Tsonga withdrew and nothing in his game really jumped out at me, but he obvs smoked his opponent. Also caught 26-seeded American Danielle Collins beat Carla Suarez Navarro from the front row, and 19-seed Elena Rybakina from Kazakhstan also from the front.
3. The Ashe matches were both epics. I caught the last 1.5 sets of Keys v. Stephens, which Sloane won in a 3rd set tiebreak. She was def the crowd favorite, though I've always like watching Keys a little more - thanks to her killer forehand. But super stoked to see if Sloane can make a late-year comeback this week. Second was Andy Murray v. Stefanos Tsitsipas, which was fucking awesome. Tsitsi won in 5, over 4.5 hours (and I sadly had to leave around 6:00 for an apartment viewing), but I just caught the ending online. I like Andy Murray, I hate how much he whines whenever matches don't go his way, and I'm hype for Tsitsi to hopefully go deep this year.

I'd love to attend the Open one day. But for now, tv and streaming will do. I thoroughly enjoyed the Anderson match on Court 7 (gotta support the Illini).
Hated that Sloan/Maddy was R1. And while I generally support my one-handed backhand breatheren, that anti-vaxxer Tisistpas can suck it.
Can't wait for Osaka tonight.

Edit: Apparently there was a controversial bathroom break from Stefanos after I left the match. Maybe this belongs in the shit talkin’ thread??
Also, apparently Stefanos is unvaccinated. Blech.

Sad that Osaka’s out, but Fernandez is a cool story too - hopefully she can keep it rolling against Kerber!
Watching Tiafoe / Rublev now, been super fun so far. An absolute slugfest between two of my faves

Just found out today that Zverev repeatedly abused his ex-girlfriend, Olya Sharypova. Why are so many of these next-gen guys assholes? Guess I'm rooting for Medvedev now - he's stood by Olya and distanced himself from Zverev. Seems like a cool guy.

Hot damn this Women's tournament has been amazing.
Loving the upcoming Final, but obviously I'm gonna root for the Pinay.
Now if Djokovic loses tomorrow, this will official be an epic Slam.
