Hate to say it, but with how rabid Brand New fans are I doubt it even effects ticket sales for future shows that much. Sucks he's a pedophile, because their current tour and setup are great. Now I feel shitty that I saw em.

I try not to be too pessimistic, but it's probably to safe to assume most popular pop-punk/emo bands have at least one pedophile in the group, right? It's just made worse in the case of Brand New because Jesse is the frontman and primary lyricist, and the only relatively famous and recognizable person in the band.
People probably forget that guitarist Steve Klein was kicked out of New Found Glory in 2014 when similar allegations surfaced. He was actually their primary lyricist as well, but he wasn't really recognizable in any way so the band basically just moved forward with the same level of success they've always had, just as a 4-piece. I'm sure if it was Chad Gilbert or Jordan Pundik, the band probably would've had to just call it quits.

I've re-read that Louis CK apology about 5 times and keep getting annoyed about new aspects of it.

Maybe we should make an "All Celebrities Are Sex Predators" thread to house all this breaking news.

I have a coworker/semi-friend who worships Brand New. It may be a coincidence but he called in sick today.

Yeah it's been a rough one for a couple of my friends, they don't know how to react either to this. There's probably a conversation to be had about separating art from artist but pretty much all of this is impossible to defend. I personally feel the same way about this as I feel about Real Estate, which is not good and I don't think I can be a fan of these bands anymore

I've made my peace with it, but it's a very personal line to draw

I'm not a Brand New super fan, or even a Real Estate super fan, so I'm comfortable with no longer listening to them. Last year Swans was the big one, and I've definitely listened to them far less as a result. There's definitely a fine line. I feel gross listening to any of them now.

I'm actually a bigger Brand New fan then I usually ever admit and they've been an important band for a long time to me and my very initial reaction to this was to just try to like, ignore it and ignore them. Like stop listening and try to pretend they aren't a favorite. I even avoided reading the stories. As of now I still don't know how exactly to respond other than to say fuck him.
I am curious though, what exactly is a good response or statement to put out after this thing? I'm almost thinking there isn't one, if its something the person has done multiple times then they are really just a shitty person and the chances of them changing are slim. And its even worse coming only after allegations pop up. But people talk about shitty responses like there's an appropriate response to be made and I've yet to see one or one that people say is appropriate

The rationalizing of the behavior is fucking creepy and sick to me. Louis CK did it and now this guy. Once a statement goes beyond a short paragraph, they're trying to make excuses for the terrible shit that they've done.
Neither statement really made much of an apology to those impacted, either.

I truly feel bad for all of the people who got Brand New tattoos when they were like 18 or whatever. What does one even do in that situation?

Once a statement goes beyond a short paragraph, they're trying to make excuses for the terrible shit that they've done. Neither statement really made much of an apology to those impacted, either. I think Lacey's statement is particularly shitty because he praises his wife and talks about how he's been able to grow into having a real relationship, without acknowledging that many of his victims may have been unable to have the same success and happiness due to the scarring he caused them. It's about more than just the act, it's about the sometimes life-long emotional impact made by that action. Lacey's statement just comes across as narcissistic and weirdly self-congratulatory. Also, it must be nice to be rich and be able to afford all of the therapy and treatment he mentions. That shit isn't cheap and would be a massive expense for someone who is in a less ideal financial situation.

"ua, these popcorn bowls make me very uncomfortable." she said as the hymns of RX Bandits spun in the background.

I have Sparta in the Trapper Keeper. They opened for a double bill of Dashboard Confessional and Weezer.
edit: Who is more likely to join the celebrity sex predator club next, Chris Carrabba or Rivers Cuomo?

this is great, because we were too busy watching patti smith support the palestinian cause at the kidz stage the last time sparta played lollapalooza.

Rivers, for the simple fact that he'll want to blame the incident for their lack of creativity on Make Believe. Also, womb shaped dressing rooms were his thing.
