In Marilyn Manson's book there's a list of things that indicate you are gay. One of them is "You can name any member of The Smiths other than Morrissey or Johnny Marr."

Do you think there's any amount of money that would convince Billy to "cede total control" to a producer? Jeff Bezos could write Billy a blank check for Madame Zuzu's and he'd refuse unless he got to pick the tea flavors.

Even in their heyday, it was never a collaborative effort.

It was recently teased that three former members of the The Smiths—drummer Mike Joyce, bassist Andy Rourke, and second guitarist Craig Gannon—had something in the works. A post on Joyce’s official Facebook teased a collaboration, along with the words “Summer 2018.” Now, the Smiths members have announced Classically Smiths, a concert series which will see the three of them joined by the Manchester Camerata Orchestra. “There’ll be Smiths classics in the set, but I can’t wait to play the songs that have never been heard live before,” Joyce told the Manchester Evening News.
Songs in the setlist purportedly include Smiths classics such as “Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want,” “Girlfriend In A Coma,” “There is a Light That Never Goes Out,” and more. The first shows will take place in Manchester, London and Edinburgh, with a full UK tour to follow later in the year. Last fall, the Smiths reissued their landmark album The Queen Is Dead.
Classically Smiths:
06-28 Manchester, England - O2 Apollo 06-29 London, England - O2 Academy, Brixton 07-02 Edinburgh, Scotland - Usher Hall

Kinda wish they would have scheduled the dates for a week later when I'm in London.

Not to shit on those three members' contributions but could they seriously not even get Johnny Marr?

Johnny Marr can make money touring on his own.

Wonder who will be singing, if anyone. morrissey is enough of a contrarian that he could surprise everyone by showing up (as long as no meat is served).

lol
Earlier today, it was reported that Joyce, Rourke, and Gannon will embark on a concert series called “Classically Smiths.” Andy Rourke has now denied his involvement in the project. In an email to Pitchfork, a representative for Rourke writes, “Andy Rourke was never officially confirmed to take part in, license or authorize the use of his name for the Classically Smiths concert. The production company [Bad Production Ltd.] had hoped Andy Rourke would be a part of the project, but at no time was it approved by Andy Rourke or his team.”
Bad Production Ltd.’s press release also included a quote attributed to Andy Rourke (“To have been there the first time round and seen it first hand, and to still be such a big fan of The Smiths today, I am both thrilled and excited to be involved in Classically Smiths. I’m really proud of the band’s work, and being able to present those songs again in this particular production format promises to be a real gift for audiences everywhere.”). Rourke’s rep tells Pitchfork: “Any quotes by Andy Rourke regarding this project are 100% fabricated and without approval.”

CoS is reporting D'arcy is not going to be a part of the Pumpkins reunion

So basically...it'll be Joyce drumming along to an Orchestra? Gannon is about as much a member of the Smiths as Pat Smear is to Nirvana. This venture has been one hell of a ride and we haven't even gotten to the part where they all sue each other again.

CoS is reporting D'arcy is not going to be a part of the Pumpkins reunion “My apologies to all of the Smashing Pumpkins fans out there who are excited about this oncoming reunion tour of the original members of the band. I know this is a huge disappointment for me, as well, but it’s not going to happen [with me],” Wretzky wrote in a text message sent to Blast Echo.
“I only just found about yesterday that the band has decided to go with a different bass player,” she addedwow that is fucked up also: According to Wretzky, Corgan, Iha, Chamberlin, and as-yet-unknown bassist will embark on a tour together this summer.

What the hell? Are they dumb? I mean I have to imagine she wanted equal pay and they shut her down? What other reason why wouldn't they want her in there when a full reunion will get them more $$$$$ overall? Or maybe she's not clean? It doesn't make any sense.

Billy was always really critical of her bass playing. I'm just speculating but that would be my best guess, she hasn't been an active musician in a long time.

She has ongoing drug and alcohol problems and they’re probably worried about her staying clean for an entire tour or being able to play. It sucks, but doesn’t surprise me at all.

I’m not surprised at all that she wasn’t invited to be part of the reunion.

Laaaaaame. D'arcy wasn't exactly Les Claypool in her prime and I'm sure it's worse now, but c'mon. Unless she just can't get clean this is pretty weak. It's like Bill Ward all over again.
Seeing James with Billy and Jimmy at the Opera House was great, but I can't support this.

If D'Acrcy sings with the Karaoke Smiths tour I'd go see that.

Red-hot take coming up: Melissa Auf Der Maur is a better bassist than D'Arcy.

I don't think anyone would disagree with that, but Auf Der Maur is not an OG Pumpkin.

The girl they had on bass and vocals on the last tour was incredible too, but on a reunion tour you are selling nostalgia, not virtuosity. It's not like Billy doesn't understand the optics either.
