what? it's a debut album and her ep z was well received. 66 on Metacritic with 10+ reviews isn’t exactly “well received” go figure, an artist whose debut ep gets "generally favorable" reviews graduates to praise with her debut full length. wattba.

Glad to see Mans Not Hot got some love. I kept meaning to post that in the songs you're obsessed with thread earlier this year.
Also wow they nailed #1!

Pretty good list, I don't agree with the FJM song they chose though

Surprised DNA was higher than Humble, but I'm okay with it. Despite all of the Rock albums that got BNM this year, theres only two rock songs in the top 20.
I chuckled when I saw FJM at 57 and then King Krule at 56.
Not an awful list but you can definitely see the Conde Nast influence stronger this year.

If you look at their earlier Top Songs lists from like let’s say 2007 or earlier a lot of them usually had s ton of pop in the top 20 and were a huge contrast to their albums lists. Don’t remember the specifics but in their reddit AMA at some point they commented on this when someone brought up why they were reviewing make pop and “radio” music.

A little surprised to see Bodak Yellow at the very top of that Pitchfork list but for the most part it all wasn’t so bad.

I think it's a good track, I was just surprised to see it at the top of the list is all. I would have expected it more in the 20-30 range from them.

Pitchfork list is fine. Cardi B is a fine choice for #1. This is my favorite line of music journalism in 2017:
A fed-up grocery store cashier quits her job to become a stripper, then parlays Vine and Instagram notoriety into reality TV stardom before achieving ubiquitous fame with her first single for a major label. Could there be a more modern depiction of the American Dream?
Something about it being lit

No songs by Grizzly Bear, Spoon, Fleet Foxes, Destroyer, Queens of the Stone Age, Japandroids, New Pornos, Phoenix or Alvvays. I know they didn't give these albums BNM but I thought there were plenty of singles in this bunch that would qualify. Hell, they even gave Everything Now BNT when it came out.
Pretty sure I counted like 10 rock songs total on there.

Pretty sure I counted like 10 rock songs total on there. Most of those had no Best Bew Tracks and many of them I thought pitchfork was being generous with their album score. Considering the day before this was released Josh Homme kicked a woman in the face it’s doubtful they’d have kept him in their list even if somehow they did make it on. Fleet Foxes will be like Deafheven in 2015, the album had two BNTs but didn’t make the tracks list. They’ll still show up on the albums list.

I was surprised that they repeated so many artists fairly high on the list. they've been following this trend more often lately as well. i can understand having several tracks from the same album on a SOTY list but they hit an excessive point with some artists. whatever year 1989 came out, i swear TSwift was on their list like 6 times. kinda makes the list less interesting and it also confounds the AOTY year whenever those albums dont make it to the top.
