I get the argument against it, but also, if you feel an artist released 5 of the top 100 songs of the year, you're kind of arbitrarily diminishing their impact if you exclude them.
Though, it'd be interesting if they only listed one, and then gave an honorable mention section for other songs would have likely qualified.

No songs by Grizzly Bear, Spoon, Fleet Foxes, Destroyer, Queens of the Stone Age, Japandroids, New Pornos, Phoenix or Alvvays. I know they didn't give these albums BNM but I thought there were plenty of singles in this bunch that would qualify. Hell, they even gave Everything Now BNT when it came out. Pretty sure I counted like 10 rock songs total on there. Most of those had no Best Bew Tracks and many of them I thought pitchfork was being generous with their album score. Considering the day before this was released Josh Homme kicked a woman in the face it’s doubtful they’d have kept him in their list even if somehow they did make it on. Fleet Foxes will be like Deafheven in 2015, the album had two BNTs but didn’t make the tracks list. They’ll still show up on the albums list. Phoenix's J-Boy got BNT, Destroyer "Tinseltown Swimming in Blood" got BNT, Arcade Fire had BNT for Everything Now, and you mentioned the two Fleet Foxes ones. Also, War on Drugs' Holding On was also BNT and got snubbed. LCD also had 3 more songs get BNT besides the one they picked and none of those qualified. That's a whole lot of reversal on "big" indie rock releases.

2016 list had 30 (give or take) rock designated songs. The move to a more mainstream based website has been underway for awhile so it's not really surprising to me that so much rock was ignored.
Rock (and all of its subgenres and partner genres like folk) is my primary genre for listening. But I'll admit, there wasn't a lot of diversity this year. What P4K does have on the list is some of the best (Dum Surfer in the top 10 is totally deserved).

Pitchfork pitchfork.com/features/lists-and-guides/the-50-best-albums-of-2017/What a bizarre list. The choices, the orders, a lot of it is just weird to me. This has too have one of the largest number of sub 8.0 albums they've ever stuck on a list. I'm salty that The National didn't make it. It's weird to me as well that numerous other albums and bands they'd given much higher scores to or had covered extensively didn't make it: (Broken Social Scene (8.4 BNM), King Gizzard, Dirty Projectors, Gas (8.8 BNM), Mono no Aware comp (8.6 BNM), Visible Cloaks (8.7 BNM). The site seems to have completely abandoned having metal in their list at this point unless it's Deafheaven. I also just don't get why SZA is getting such high rankings in these end of the year lists. Her album is fine, 86 on Metacritic, but even for Pitchfork its really odd that they have an 8.4 as their #2 album (only other album scored that low as #2 was The Books' Lemon of Pink in 2003).

knew kendrick would be #1.
seems pretty clear ratings don't really matter at this point for list placement. i feel like they said before it's more an amalgamation of lists submitted from all of their contributors. that would make sense then that the more challenging albums with really high scores that you mentioned (gas, mono no aware, visible cloaks) would be left off by not being found on a bunch of lists.
still really weird to see a pitchfork list without the national album on it. the album was even generally highly regarded, unlike the dirty projectors album. overall there weren't many surprises with what was included though, pretty much albums and artists they've talked about regularly all year.

I keep BSS would get dropped. That BNM from them came out of nowhere as they weren't hyping the album that much and their reviews for new tracks gave a bleh reaction.
I figured as far as the indie rock darlings from the mid-2000s, I would have seen The National instead of St. Vincent. Also thought FJM would crack it somewhere.
Glad some love was finally shown to Open Mike Eagle.
1 rock album in the top 10 surprised me. I thought for sure WOD or LCD would be there but just as we discussed yesterday....
I'm still a noob to rap but DAMN (while being great) pales in comparison to Butterfly. At this rate the P4K top 10 of 2010-2019 will be 5 Kendrick albums and 5 Kanye albums.
Glad to see Tyler in the top 10. That album has grown on me significantly in the last few weeks.

yeah mostly a pretty tame and unsurprising list, tho snubbing the Nat'l and DP is kinda surprising.

Only one white dude in the top 10 and that album sucks.
EDIT: Whoa just noticed no Dirty Projectors. Did P4K just erase them from their website because their festival set sucked so bad?

I agree. I'm not even a Frank Ocean fan, but that album is way more unique than DAMN. DAMN is just a solid collection of some great songs, but its such a boring no. 1.

Has anyone here actually listened to the SZA album? Jesus. It's really good. #2 can definitely be justified, not that it needs t obe.
Also this is 3/3 for Kendrick getting AOTY by P4K. Not surprising (as said, I'd consider this year somewhat weak, same with 2015) but pretty impressive.

it's honestly a shame that none of those great experimental records made it. could have really used some exposure since there were a lot of highlights in that space this year.
presumably we'll get a runners up type list again? disappointed circuit des yeux didn't make the list as well.
