Has anyone here actually listened to the SZA album? Jesus. It's really good. #2 can definitely be justified, not that it needs t obe. good album but nowhere near blond is all i meant not at all, i'd agree with that. just every time control is on a list i've seen people here complain about it like it's a shit record.

The xx only being at 40 is some bullshit.

it's honestly a shame that none of those great experimental records made it. could have really used some exposure since there were a lot of highlights in that space this year. presumably we'll get a runners up type list again? disappointed circuit des yeux didn't make the list as well. yeah did blanck mass even make it? p4k gone full vanilla (ironically) Shit you're right, somehow that didn't even make it

as long as King Krule and FJM are back to back, we'll have done our due diligence. This is a good time to remind everyone that we only have 11 usable lists. And one of them's me.

Ultimately I think this list marks the end of the "every 19 year old British kid with a laptop gets BNM" era of Pitchfork.
We are deep in the throes of the "no actually everything your 14 year old listens to on Soundcloud is fantastic" era.

also did I miss it or is Phoebe Bridgers no where on this? She’s not and that sucks. I know P4k wasnt as high on the album as everywhere else...I think gave it a 7? (Scores don’t matter with this list, I know I know)

the top 10 of the list is actually pretty good and the most interesting part. jlin, fever ray, vince, king krule, moses sumney.

Not surprising (as said, I'd consider this year somewhat weak, same with 2015) but pretty impressive. The SZA album was fine, but it didn't seem very memorable to me. Maybe I need to give it another few listens.

these are very roundabout ways of saying that goodson basically wrote this list.

one thing that's really wild about the pitchfork list is how there are almost no "bands" or "groups" really, it's so many individual artists. on quick count, i counted 12 groups as opposed to individuals out of 50. and even that is almost being generous, with counting acts like LCD and the war on drugs as "groups" even though they almost aren't. the top 10 is entirely singular artists. extreme auteur period these days.

that continues to fall into their trend of "rock is dead bruh" though. they've been pushing the narrative for solo singer/songwriters for a while but this year was easily the most transparent about it.

Floored that Julien didn't make this list when they were constantly promoting her and she has a tiny desk coming out any day now

IDK that Pitchfork list looks exactly like you'd think a Pitchfork list would look like. There's some good stuff on there, some not so good stuff on there, and Lil Peep not being on there is goofy

I'm still a noob to rap but DAMN (while being great) pales in comparison to Butterfly. At this rate the P4K top 10 of 2010-2019 will be 5 Kendrick albums and 5 Kanye albums. kind of points to this being a fairly weak year if you're gonna focus on pop-adjacent music. last year's top 2 of blonde and a seat at the table are miles ahead of damn and ctrl. Disagree. A seat at the table is dull and aside from Cranes in the Sky there wasn’t a single memorable melody to me. At least SZA is catchy. Blonde and Endless should have been combined into one album using tracks from each. Damn is a much better, cohesive effort. It’s more politically relevant.

What that Pitchfork list says to me is that there were no important or classic indie rock albums to come out this year.
I'd disagree but that's fine.
