Dumb to get everyone in my immediate family a 23 and me kit or nah?
We've all been pretty shitty with gifts, so the bar is low as is.

Apparently, if you do that test, the police can request your DNA from them. #themoreyouknow

Just get one test kit and have everyone in your family spit into the same tube. Chaos.

I mean are you trying to figure out which one of you is adopted?

This sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Get it done, neader

I mean are you trying to figure out which one of you is adopted? Nah but I think it'd be interesting. My two brothers both have the same dad but different from me so curious to see who gets what from where. My mom would be into that stuff, my sister-in-law not entirely sure. Don't think I want the government to have my nieces' DNA just yet tho.

I'm getting a Nintendo Switch for my kids, since we had a good year and why not. Even though we just bought a Wii U like 2 years ago. Fuckin' Nintendo.

Also my vote is bad idea as well. To me it comes off more like “Alright which of you fuckers am I related to for real spit in this tube” more than “wow aren’t genetics cool?” I personally would think it’s a cool gift but I dunno, it seems a little odd

We usually get my parents theater tickets to force them out of the suburbs and into the city, but my dad just had eye surgery and I have no idea what the recovery time is going to be.
Ended up getting them White Sox tickets - last time I did that my dad accidentally threw them away because they were in "too plain of a brown envelope." Can't wait!

That's a great idea.
We put together Denver care packages for friends and family every year. Beer and hot sauce and small gifts and stuff like that. It's been popular, and it's easy/cheaper for us to put together.

Getting my mom Blackhawks tickets. She's the biggest fan in our family and has never been to a game, so I'm excited

my wife asked for a 23andme kit this year. she's adopted and really knows nothing about her background, so i was kinda excited she's taking this step.
other than that, i don't like gift-giving/receiving in general, and tried to talk my mom out of it last night, but sometimes she still thinks i'm 12 years old and still believe in santa (i'm 49 btw).

Beer is also a popular gift in my family. My brother requested a couple things from Begyle (barrel aged Imperial Pajamas and Batch 500) but this year I am shipping everything home so I don't have to lug it all on the train.

We just don't really have any records on my mom's side so we think we're German but no one really knows. I am also #TeamNoGifts esp re my brother's inlaws (I feel like I complain about this every year) but they insist on buying stuff SIGH

The only gift giving I really dislike is secret santa in a family (or work, I guess (never had to do it there), but family bugs me more). Gifts given because they are obligated are robbed of any real meaning.

I have to come up with a work gift for our grab bag thing. I'm thinking of being lazy and getting a LH/Schubas gift card again. Or some sort of alcohol.
Also y'all have work Christmas parties? We're having one with a strict 2 drink maximum before 3pm, which I'm not sure anyone will follow.

Full workday affair, where they gave you a gift card, and a few hours to go buy some stuff, and then you had to return and (gag) present it. Potluck breakfast and then a fish fry for lunch. Then some cheesy games, and a raffle for stuff like a paid day off, and a TV.

This is the first Christmas where I actually have much a disposable income so I want to go a little bigger than usual, but I'm really bad at picking out gifts. I haven't started shopping yet at all

We have a White Elephant gift exchange at work. I'm thinking of getting something from Bed Bath and Beyond, since I have a bunch of those coupons they send you. Lottery tickets are always good, too.

Definitely more on board with white elephant over secret santa.

We've done the white elephant thing for our work department for like 10 years now. I used to buy some alcohol for it, but now I'd rather just buy what I want and not risk getting some lame gift instead.
Also, our department party is at Hofbrauhaus this year? I'm guessing they don't have many food options.
