Strangely, my girlfriend and I happened to get each other long-sleeve hoodies for exercise (although the one she got me I think is all cotton). She also got me a mortar and pestle, and some candy. I also got her a sudoku book, and the Life From New York SNL book.

We had a nice weekend with my family and got some good stuff, too.
Highlights were a new comforter, a bunch of records, a Bose bluetooth speaker for the apartment and a bunch of books/comics. I got the Ta-Nehisi Coates Black Panther comics and the Ed Piskor X-Men Grand Design (still on the way) and I'm super excited for both.

Books: Meet Me in the Bathroom, The new Klosterman compilation, and the 33 1/3 books on Sound of Silver and The Suburbs
Nice set of pint glasses with my alma mater's logos on there (which I'm having a drink from right now, holla week off!)
My brother got me a sick Steal Your Face shirt with DFA etched into the skull, which is a fest shirt if I've ever heard of one
Lots of candy and cash
And a Pitchfork 3-day pass for this year. It now makes sense why my mom told me not to buy one when they first went on sale
My mom also made sure my girlfriend had gifts to open this year, mainly coffee from a Back of the Yards roastery she's really fond of and a scarf, so that was a nice touch

Things I am keeping: Team Zissou hat my SIL knitted, socks, slippers, cat toys, beers (King Sue, some brewery-only sour from New Glarus, etc), Wisconsin themed tea towel with my hometown on it, stupid amount of money from my dad Things I sent home with my parents: cheese, pickled things, homemade mustard and nutella, ornaments, two bags of candied pecans |

i flew to my parents' house on saturday without incident. o'hare was surprisingly calm. my girlfriend flew out sunday evening after lengthy delays. she finally arrived at 2:30 am. so christmas morning got off to a late start. but we had a very pleasant day. My mom also made sure my girlfriend had gifts to open this year, mainly coffee from a Back of the Yards roastery she's really fond of and a scarf, so that was a nice touch my stepmom, sister and aunt hooked my girlfriend up with a lot of little gifts. she felt really good about that. |

In the midnight bus back to my town (estimated landing-in-my-bed time 3AM) because I've got to work tomorrow but didn't want to miss the traditional (and always fun) Dec 26 dinner at my boyfriend's aunts
Happy of my decision but not exactly looking forward to tomorrow's long day at the office especially as I'm replacing my boss.. I think it's going to be a coffee filled day

my brother has turned our whole family into degenerates and gets everyone to play jackbox.tv games and cards against humanity.
it warmed my heart to see 8 of us (including my mostly conservative parents and grandparents) play Quiplash and everyone was constantly submitting anti-trump responses.
also i have never had a topical debate last for 5 days straight with my family but from the minute i got in friday until i left tuesday, we could not stop fucking debating Star Wars. it was kinda amazing.

Star Wars was definitely a big topic of discussion. My mom and sister kept getting so annoyed with me and my dad and uncle discussing it ad nauseam
also both of my uncles independently of each other have gotten really interested in this cryptocurrency stuff, one of them is like on it putting a lot of money in and he has spreadsheets and shit and the other is just interested in it. The one really into it spent a while explaining to my parents how all of it works that was something

luckily no one in my family keeps up with that but everyone in my office is now obsessed with cryptocurrency (after just learning about it less than a month ago) and it's the most annoying discussion i have to deal with on a daily basis.

I’m pretty hyped. We’re gonna start decorating soon and E is gonna start baking loads of Christmas treats soon. It’s always fun. No idea what to get for people yet, just got through E’s birthday so I haven’t started thinking about it.
