Scoots, if you can recommend a brunch place that can accommodate a largish group on New Year's Day, lmk. I think we're kinda in your neighborhood. In my neighborhood, you can call ahead to Denver Biscuit Company to have them set aside a larger table. I think they'd be more inclined to do this if the group is more than 6. Otherwise you can check to see if Departure has any spots open - pretty sure they take reservations. Outside of the neighborhood, I'd check: Old Major Duo Linger Thanks! Should be 8-12 of us.

I don't think you'll have much of an issue getting in at those places - all except DBC accept reservations, and as I mentioned, they'll probably love having that large of a group if you call ahead.
Old Major is basically the Denver version of Publican. Duo is more traditional fare, but they're really good at breakfast dishes. Linger is great if you have more picky people in the group with how expansive the menu is. Plus it's in an old mortuary, which is neat.

Apparently two day shipping when you order the 20th means the 27th. At least it's my brother and sister in law's gifts and the gifts for my nieces already arrived.

My family is boycotting an extended family gathering for Christmas Eve after doing it for 30 years because I guess they hate everyone there now. So for the first time in my life I don't know what to do for Christmas Eve. I'll probably just do something with my girlfriend and her sister since she's in town through Monday, but it's just kind of a shitty situation all around, especially since my grandma on that side is dying and probably won't be with us next year.
This holiday sucks

Don't let your family speak for you. If you want to see people, go see people. Set it up yourself if you need to. Life's too short to not see people because of other peoples' grudges.

Family sucks sometimes, but it's best not to let yourself get caught up in that drama. My brothers hated each other for over a decade and it didn't keep me from hanging out with both of their families.

Oh and then the two uncles who have written each others families out of their wills - they're fun, too!

I mean, I've never been particularly close with that side of the family (or any of my extended family tbh). So this is probably the last opportunity to see all these people before I disappear into the city slicker liberal bubble that they think I'm in. So I'm kind of torn

Could you just stop by earlier that day and see your grandma at least?

Could you just stop by earlier that day and see your grandma at least? I mean she's in a rehab facility right now but yeah, that's the plan. She really wants to meet my girlfriend too, which is kind of been an awkward subject to broach with her considering she's never met my extended family.

I think the plan right now is: go to the Christmas Eve thing, pick up girlfriend in city, drive to rehab to see Grandma, Christmas with my Dad's side. I think. I'm no good at these things

I got a winter coat which I don't need, a fleece blanket which I do, running shoes which I do, and three sets of towels, all wrapped separately so I opened three presents that all turned out to be towels, that I also didn't need (when my mom visited when I first moved to Nashville I only had one towel. I have gotten more since then, and told her, but she's getting old).
Like I said, bar is kinda low for my family.
More concerned with the fact that I can't find half of the clothes I packed.
But all good. My nieces are having fun and that's all that matters. How's everyone else's holiday?

Mine has been really nice! My fiancee and I made breakfast this morning for everyone which was a lot of fun. We opened presents and just generally have been spending quality time with each other. I'll probably spend a few minutes here or there working on some materials for my online class that I'm in, or doing some work for my undergraduate thesis, but it's all ok because it sounds like we're gonna spend a lot of the night in the pool/hot tub. It's 75 and sunny with a nice breeze here in the keys, which almost makes me forget I'm in the state of Florida.

It's been really nice to spend Christmas at home. Missing family and all that, but I appreciate the lack of stress. Gift highlights have been some personalized cologne (which I was not aware existed, but is fantastic) and a new running watch.
A friend also got me a "I love Kentucky more than Kanye loves Kanye" shirt that I will be wearing a lot going forward.

Got a Switch here too. I don't think I can copy my Miis over from my WiiU, which fucking sucks

My best gift was a 3-day pass for Voodoo Fest from my wife (I got it presale last week). And the agreement that I would also be going to Lollapalooza again this year.

I mentioned this in the video game thread but my fiancee and her parents got me an Xbox One since she knows I've been pretty down since my 360 bit the dust. That's one of the few gifts I can think of that says both "I love you" and "I'd love to spend less time with you"

I got a bunch of cookbooks. Apparently the kids think they merit something more than hamburgers or spaghetti when they visit. They are in for in a reality check.
