There are plenty of valid criticisms out there but yeah I've noticed an idiotic amount of excruciating MAGA rants like, 'Wtf that casino planet why did they get sooo fucking political, basically a Greenpeace ad when they OF COURSE let the minorites free the animals fucking Disney ruined Star Wars'

so yeah, absolutely adored this one. will be seeing again next weekend for sure. -i LOVED the subversive tone to the entire story of Luke. opening with him tossing the saber over his shoulder is such a strong way to start and say "this is its own story and not another ripoff." -everything about Hamill was just perfect all around. i know he had qualms with Luke's arc early on but it really panned out so well. the fall from grace, the fear of Kylo and Rey's power. the hope he sees in Rey. the return of fucking Yoda (and like, Ep 5 style drunk goofy Yoda, which i loved.) and then his ability to still surprise everyone by saving the day without even leaving the island. thought the whole "finding peace and fading into the wind" style was a beautiful send off. -bravo to both Daisy and Adam. the Rey/Kylo interactions were even better this time around. -THANK YOU Rian for not making Rey related to anyone in this series. so sick of everyone being related to someone else powerful and making it seem like the Skywalker bloodline is the only thing of value. fit in very well with the final image of the kid and "anyone can be a hero" message. -dawww the porgs were cute and funny and not in a stupid jar jar way. i appreciated them. those weird nun thingies that kept having their shit destroyed by rey were great too. -everything with the cave was great. -Poe transitioning from scalawag to leader was pretty cool and sensible way to resolve the inevitable issues of no Carrie in Ep 9 -i think i liked the Leia thing? at first i cried even though i figured she would be killed off -- then i nearly screamed -- then i was like no wait that's silly -- then i was like oooooh no i get it! awesome! i'm still digesting it. -did not expect a full second battle on the planet after the space battle was done. that was great but kinda fucks up the pacing and how my heart was supposed to take it all in  i was still in shock from the crusier turning around and hitting warp speed. beautiful shot. -the Kylo/Snoke/Rey battle is kinda my favorite thing. i literally started jumping out of the seat when the hilt started turning. the cinematography and the choreography together...gorgeous. -definitely could've done without the casino planet/benicio del toro stuff but i guess it might play into Rian's new trilogy? worth noting we had to switch tix for an earlier time and missed the first 5-10 minutes. correct me if i'm wrong but that's just the dreadnaught space battle right? anything else happen? it seemed pretty easy to figure out based on dialog with leia and poe. |

perhaps one change that would've shut some skeptics up
regarding Leia finally using the force --
it should've shown her fingers then cut back to the ship and someone on the bridge saying the ship was moving on its own, and imply that Leia force-pulled the ship back to her. the "superman" kinda looking flight in space is what made some fans mad, i think, since that's not explicitly a jedi power but then again luke and kylo both showed us lots of new powers in this one so no reason leia couldn't as well.
regardless of that quibble, i thought that shot of her of face and hand was mesmerizing. |

When Luke, explaining to Rey why the Jedi Order has to end for all time, all but looked directly at the screen and said, Because the stupid prequels revealed them to be the most worthless group of dumbass motherfuckers in the history of the universe, and since we must treat those awful movies as Star Wars canon, that forces us to repudiate the Jedi for all time.
fuck yes. i was so happy to see Luke completely buck the Order and call them out for allowing Sidious to take over.
no wonder Lucas isn't liking these newer Episodes. rational screenwriters and directors are blatantly calling out his flubs from I-III |

I cant figure out how to do spoilers because I'm not very smart and its making it hard to jump into this discussion It's the weekend after release, anyone jumping into this thread has seen it. Anyways couple thoughts 1) The Finn/Rose storyline is really bad. The entire casino chase bit bleh, they should've fleshed out the kids on the casino planet more imo. Rose saving Poe from the cannon completely ruined the emotion of the scene and it would've been a great way for Poe to go out and redeem his character arc. The kiss is so stupid and pointless. 2) Marry Poppins Leia looked dumb and was dumb 3) The ship going into hyper speed was dope, loved the silence. 4) Rian did a great job balancing everything Now that I've let it sit with me for a couple of days, I think the lows bring down the movie a lot for me, but it was still a good star wars movie. |

there were a few times that Luke tries to shout and Hamill's Joker voice came out and i was kinda giddy.
but yeah i actually like how disheveled they made him look, rather than trying to dress Mark up too much like they did with Carrie.
it also made the "trick" at the end with Kylo even better because Luke made him fake self look exactly like how he did the last time anyone saw him.

i also really appreciated the humor in this one. film coulda been straight up dark all the way through but rian still managed to make me laugh quite a bit. a lot of reviews had said it was shitty and cringe-worthy jokes but i really didnt notice anything like that.
bb8 can honestly just replace r2 and 3p0 entirely at this point for me. droid gets it.
