I went and saw Alejandro Escovedo and Joe Ely at City Winery last night through Jukely. I hadn't been to City Winery before, so that was cool. It's a nice room, although kind of an odd setup. The show was great. They ended up performing at the same time and alternating songs, which was a bummer since I got there like 35 minutes late. Still saw almost an hour and a half since they played a combined two hours. Both dudes have such great voices and the stories were awesome. I'm glad I went. sad i missed this one

Father John Misty was next level. Worthy of all the superlatives. Definitely my favorite show of the year so far.

Washed Out @ the Metro was great. New songs sounded so much better live than on record.
I was surprised it sold out too, I did not expect it to be that packed.

logan square food truck fest was a good time. lots of good tasting options and beer wasn't insanely expensive.
Gories were real fun friday and had a good crowd.
Endless Boogie sounded fantastic saturday but had a very sparse crowd (it rained a little bit i guess?)
also checked out the Stranger Things pop-up store and i gotta say it was really, really cool. thoroughly impressed at how well it was dressed up and the commitment to pretty much making everything themed. we got there early enough to walk straight in but when we left the line was all the way out to california.
saturday night we went to logan theater afterwards and caught a late night showing of Pulp Fiction and man, seeing that movie on the big screen for the first time was fucking glorious.

I'm old and / or Towkio wasn't very good Friday at the place at Racine and Fulton Market. Leather Corduroys (Joey Purp and Kami) was very good Friday at the place at Racine and Fulton Market. I'm old and / or BJ the Chicago Kid wasn't very good Friday at the place at Racine and Fulton Market. Saturday, at old crow smoke house, we didn't win tix for Zac Brown Band (I'm not paying $51 for the cheap seats to $112 for the expensive ones to hear ZBB cover Ants Marching), and I didn't feel up to walking to over outside of wrigley to hear zbb from outside the gates. We did pass Jim Ellison's old place on the way home, and I pointed it out to the better half. Sunday night, we went to see Lillie Mae at Schuba's. She is not the cow punk reincarnation of Patsy Cline, and her voice isn't as good as Leann Rimes. But she is the instrumental equal of say, Dolly Parton or Roy Clark, and her band is really tight. Too bad sister Scarlett wasn't part of her band yesterday (she joins the tour in Denver). Lillie Mae is highly recommended.

I enjoyed Kendrick a lot more than I thought I would last night. He was much better than Coachella, prob the best time I've seen him besides P4K 14.

Depeche Mode were good last night. The trip out to Tinley remains a huge pain, but they sounded great and they drew a nice crowd. I would have preferred a setlist with more upbeat stuff, but absolutely no complaints for $20. Glad we went.

Cloakroom's album release show was so goddamn good. Sweet Cobra was always wonderful as always. hadn't heard Life & Times before but enjoyed them as well!
also schuba's had the Old Style Oktoberfest tallboys for $3 each for whatever dumb reason so we had like 10 and i might regret that, nah fuck it.

Kevin Morby was really great last night, his band is [fire emoji], ol girl from Hand Habits is a great guitarist and I was trying to figure out where I knew his drummer from - he was in Dearland (Elvis Perkins backing band.) Also Kevin's mom and dad were there and they were adorably Midwestern. Also that's the first time someone successfully got in my pants by suggesting we go back to mine and watch YouTubes of The Babies so who knows man anything is possible

Minsk was loud but tight as fuck. Wolvhammer is always super fun. Acid King just doesn't do anything for me but i knew that going in.
we snuck over to Lockdown's new bbq extension in between acts and the ribs were great. the steak melt was eh.

hoooooooly fuck Oxbow was tremendous. mindblowing performance. Behold the Monolith and RLYR were great too.
Primus at NCMF was good but i couldnt be in the crowd because reasons regarding new job soon. end of Bob Moses sounded good when i came in, beginning of Skepta sounded good when i left.
boy i am just not a good fit for north coast.

That Oxbow set was awesome. So great.
I didn't really care for Behold, but loved RLYR. Highly recommend.

Mount Eerie was equal amounts heartbreaking and wonderful last night. I can't imagine being able to write through grief as beautifully as he has and actually perform those songs. He did 4-5 from A Crow and then did six new songs, most of which dealt with the same subject material but with a surprising amount of humor. I was near tears the whole damn time.

yeah the show was really good. the new songs were interesting, i'm really interested to see how the studio versions come together. it was obvious he realized he needed to make some songs that had some performative quality to them, if only for his own emotional state when performing them.
one of the new songs was this incredible, absurd song about performing at form asconti. he sang about being paid and flown to the desert outside of phoenix to sing songs about his dead wife to kids on drugs outside skrillex's tour bus.

the set at art institute was incredibly intense as it was the first time he had performed or presented in any form like 80% of the songs. v raw

Saw the National do a quick set at the Apple Store in Williamsburg. (6 songs, 35 minutes) It was advertised for being an hour set, it seemed Matt was eager to get off stage. Probably wasn't excited to play a full hour standing directly in front of a dead crowd with the lights on.
I wasn't familiar with the new album outside the songs released previously, but it all sounded like the National. I'll Still Destroy You was a lot of fun live and of course System Only Dreams in... ripped.

Filthy Friends at the Bell House last night were very good. Fun set of all originals plus two encores (the second encore was a cover of "Rebel Rebel"). Recommend catching them at Goose Island on the 22nd.

Weedeater last night was great but not as fun as the Psycho set (place was empty. i have no idea why anyone would think to put them at Bottom Lounge. they tour every year and play Beat Kitchen size places)
Telekinetic Yeti's first show was fucking badass though. already have a really tight show put together and they're both phenomenal musicians to watch. drummer is so energetic.
got to talk to the dudes afterwards. so humble and cool.

wurstfest was aight. good food vendors. the beer choice is oddly irish for a supposed german theme and also the way they handled beer tickets when you buy a takehome stein was kinda fucked.
masked intruder was super fun and diarrhea planet were good (closing on a tears for fears cover was bizarre) also i do not think DP really needs 4 guitarists but there they are.
weather was lovely despite getting chilly last night. if i can slip my pass back on i'll go check out murder by death tomorrow.
