I somehow saw Lit three times back in the day. Warped tour, radio station fest, and opening for No Doubt and a Fergie-less Black Eyed Peas.

Saw Lucero at Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery in Santa Fe. As mentioned in the weather thread, it was quite the journey to get there and seemingly nothing else was even open in town.
Tried to grab a bite beforehand, but with everything closed we just went straight to the venue and ordered from the food truck. The advantage was catching the last half hour of The Vandoliers’ opening set which was very fun. Hadn’t listened to them before and very much enjoyed the lead singer’s voice which reminded me of Micah from Two Cow Garage.
Lucero put on a reliably excellent show and the set was front-loaded with most of my favorites. I think it was my first time seeing them since before the pandemic? Didn’t make it through to the bitter end but a very good show in a very chill half full venue.

Iron Maiden was so fuckin’ sick last night. First time seeing them - I was never a metalhead growing up, only really got into them thx to a friend at my college radio station. I rocked my Dino Jr shirt tho, as I’m not pretending to be a full-time hesher or anything.
Goddamn that shit ruled so hard. Seconding I forget who saw them last week and mentioned that Bruce’s vocals are impeccable. How the fuck does he still sound so good?? And the triple guitars too! So killer. Obviously the pyro was wild, the goofy stage antics delivered. 10/10 entertainment value, 8/10 setlist (I listened to Somewhere in Time a bunch to prep for this show, and the new ones mostly came off well live).

Lupe Fiasco was great at the Salt Shed on Sunday. I didn't expect a big crowd but it was very full. I think everyone there was exactly my age.
The deputy mayor came out to present him with an award and declare November 10th as Lupe Fiasco Day in Chicago. Very cool but it was very awkward when she said Brandon Johnson's name and the crowd loudly booed.
He went into "Kick, Push" afterwards though and it was a genuinely electric concert moment.

Got my first dud Modest Mouse show last night after seeing them 5+ times, all of which were excellent.
Maybe it was just me feeling sick, it being packed in the Salt Shed, chomper crowd, etc. But I thought it was a very low energy show for an album anniversary show that should have felt special.

I went to see Wild Kratts Live with my kids yesterday. Oddly fun to see two grown men who completely underestimated the effects of altitude attempt to entertain children and teach them about animals. My kids went nuts the entire show, so it was a good time.

I wrote a whole response to why I think the good news tour should been a theater tour and than I realized I needed a glass of water.

Jack White on Wednesday evening in Dallas at Trees, 600 person venue. Actually had been to this venue once before, back in 2015 for Death Grips. Pretty sick place to see him and honestly just was wild to watch someone that big in such a small place. He was super into it too, it really flourishes better in a smaller setting like this. He played about a full two hours and got a pretty fun setlist, "Hello Operator" absolutely ripped and he did a long extended "Steady as She Goes" straight into "Fell in Love with a Girl" (which thankfully is back to the fast fun version than the slowed down version he used to do at solo shows) that was absolutely nuts. I will say the venue felt a little oversold, though I had a good spot for most of it. But before the second to last song I took a quick bathroom break and came back to find my spot gone, with no real way to weasel myself in without being a jerk. It seemed almost more packed at that point, almost wonder if they let a few folks in. I ended up on the side where I couldn't really see at all, though by his last song which was Seven Nation Army I had almost gotten to where I could see him. But a dad and his probably 14 year old or so kid had seemingly had the same problem and were to my side with an even worse view. About a verse into Seven Nation Army I tapped the kid and told him to switch with me, because that's much more likely to be a core memory moment for a teenager than it is for me. So I basically just listened to the song instead of watching it but it was still fun and I've heard it enough times anyway Overall, really neat thing for this tour to have happened and I'm so happy I got into it, I got a ticket in the general sale when I didn't really expect to. Haven't got to see many intimate shows from big artists like this Setlist- www.setlist.fm/setlist/jack-white/2024/trees-dallas-tx-435e9b4f.html

Emily King was a little under the weather, but was able to hit the high notes, even tho her speaking voice was going, at the overly crowded OTS show last night. She's like Tori Amos if Tori played guitar instead of piano. Glad I finally got to see her live after first learning about her back in 2019. Opener Martin Luke Brown was a very tall version of his fellow Brit Ed Sheeran, but the audience did like his sentimentality.

Saw Craig Finn/Katy Kirby both playing solo at Schubas Thursday. Craig has a solo album coming out in April about a guy who becomes a priest despite not believing in God- he played like 4-5 tracks from that and a mix of other stuff from his solo catalog. Having never seen the guy before I thought it was a good show save for the drunk lady who screamed for "God in Chicago", and responded to craig saying "I don't have a piano I can't do that song" she said "we'll sing it for you" to groans of all around the room. I bet she didn't vote. Katy Kirby played solo electric and it just confirmed that her album from this year is still one of the better ones I've heard this year. Gonna try to catch her full band show whenever it comes back around. Was nice that this was the early show that was done at 9:15-ish and I got to be home by 10:30 on a school night Saw Tycho at Salt Shed last night- third time seeing them but first time at a stand alone show, which I figured I should do. I mostly caught this based on claypoolfan's recommendation from like May- the new album sounds like the Awake/Epoch era of the band. My bud and I were dead center of the standing room so the visuals were incredible. I wish they played longer than 75 minutes but that's really the only knock on the show from a music standpoint. 2011 was an extremely long time ago

“God in Chicago” is a great tune. That Katy Kirby record feels like it came out last year. It’ll def make my year-end list.

I was into the new album, but basically wanted to give them a go indoors where it makes sense. basically vibe city from where I was standing back left, but thought it was a soldi show

back from a whirlwind weekend of king gizz. got to Austin with enough time to freshen up, get dinner at a brewery/food truck and head to the venue which is so fucking far from the city. I honestly probably wouldn't have wanted to go if I'd known sooner. anyway, there was a free roller coaster, sightlines were great, vibes were high and beers were only $10 (I had stumbled upon a reddit thread complaining about prices so was expecting northerly island-type prices). downside is that we opted to leave the show early to beat traffic and split an Uber of dubious status with two randos who were also going downtown. sixth street after the show was too much for me, but I liked Rainey street enough before the show.
Saturday we hopped a 9 a.m. flight to new Orleans and headed to our favorite spot for lunch (liuzza's by the track) then various bar hopping and shopping. I narrowly avoided a hangover yesterday and we hit the town to watch the bears game, then cochon for dinner before the show at mardi gras world, which is kinda like if salt shed and radius had a baby. the dudes were on one, getting loose and clearly having a blast. setlist was fire. and you haven't seen a weirdo until you see gizz in new Orleans. 7 a.m. flight this morning was a killer.

The Better Lovers/Full of Hell/SPY/Cloakroom show was very fun. All excellent sets and maybe the best FoH set I’ve seen in a couple of years.

The Better Lovers/Full of Hell/SPY/Cloakroom show was very fun. All excellent sets and maybe the best FoH set I’ve seen in a couple of years. Agreed, all four bands were great. Spy always suffers with a barricade but they made the most of it. This was my first time seeing Better Lovers and it was great seeing all of those guys playing live again. So glad all of them carried on after their respective breakups.
