Also anyone going to The The or any other shows at the Shed in the next two weeks, get ready for a fucking zoo around there. It was nuts over there because everyone was going to that Pumpkin pop up bar right by there. It was almost tough to find parking for once

What can I say about this Sturgill Simpson tour that hasn’t been said already? Along with the one-off old-school-heavy Pavement show earlier this month, my favorite show of the year. Just awesome from end-to-end. Left just feeling super satisfied and grateful.

Stevie Wonder last night in Detroit was insanely good. Like a 90% chance I go at the United Center, probably a guarantee when I'm on the other side of this hangover.

Went to see Psychedelic Furs and Jesus and Mary Chain last night in KC. I went for JAMC, who hadn't played in MO since they reformed. They played for a little over an hour and sounded really good, obmit joined to watch for a bit (thanks again for the ticket). I wasn't planning on watching the Furs again, but I looked at their setlist and they've started playing 'All That Money Wants' early on, so I bailed after I saw them play that.

Drop Nineteens were pretty great last night at a blessedly sparse Metro. I wasn't aware of them in their brief heyday but the story of their resurgence is kind of fascinating - they hadn't played together (and most of the members had not been active musicians) since their college days 30ish years ago until reforming in 2022 and putting out a 2023 record that somehow both embraces the freshness of their 1992 classic Delaware and provides a mature take on their sound.
Crowd was split between GenZ'ers and olds like myself, and the youths were VERY into it and vying for setlists at the end. It was really something and the band seemed super happy to be there. I can't really think of another band that I would have liked that had long disbanded by the time I was born but I then got super into for their resurgence (I'm sure there are some).

I'm glad the Drop Nineteens show was good- really bummed it was the same night as Justice but I committed to that way back in May so hopefully they come back and play Pitchfork or something.
Justice whipped though so I have no regrets about that. Tickets were going for $8 an hour before the show but it was pretty crowded. Radius is the best venue to see electronic acts in this city and the Justice light show is probably the best I've seen for a long time. My buddy Jack Herer made the experience memorable as well. Glad I finally got them in the list.
I posted this in the other thread but the settimes tonight are the opener (who was whatever) from 7:45-8:40ish and Justice is on at 9:05 and played about 90 minutes

Caught the final show of the Sweat tour last night. Don’t care for Troye Sivan’s music but he had backup dancers and a production and sang. Charli just kind of vibed on stage. It was my sixth and worst time seeing her, I think? Crowd energy was great, it was still a fun time on the floor, but I truly cannot imagine that show being at all enjoyable from nosebleeds. I am very much over the brat lifespan and am curious to see what she does next but I doubt it’ll get any better!

Jack White show was so so good. Two solid hours of ripping through his catalogue. Everything I could have hoped for out of that experience. I genuinely hope you guys get a show this weekend.

Iron Maiden is truly insane for doing an arena show where the setlist is basically all from the new album (I should clarify this album is three years old and they've had a whole other tour since its release) and Somewhere in Time but they sound so good it doesn't matter. I don't care because I've seen them a bunch and every tour focusing on a different pair of albums keeps things fresh but idk maybe if this was gonna be your one and only bite at the apple it would be a bummer. I can't believe Bruce sounds the way he does still. I don't know if there's anyone else whose pipes have held like that.

I think the idea that he's only going to go to a venue that is not booked is flawed. He's been going to venues that already had acts scheduled and that act then becomes the opener. That was the case in Denver and a few other cities.

That was the case in Denver and a few other cities. This is a question for chvrchbarrel but how does this work? Does the venue tell the band "yeah sorry jack white is here you're opening now." Or Do the venues ask the bands who mostly say yes because it's probably good exposure? What happens to the people who bought tickets for the other bands show?

I don't really know that I can answer with any confidence, particularly to "headliners becoming openers" type of thing, but a promoter could absolutely just push a band up to an earlier set time and book a 'late show' and tell the earlier band to essentially deal with it.
Like you mentioned, the ticketing is the biggest thing - You'd still have to turn the house around, Jack would play to a fresh crowd. Don't see a world where Jack agrees to only sell 60% of the room's cap because The Steens already sold 40% of it or whatever. Also robs The Steens of any chance to make a bonus. Idk just seems weird.

Just looked at the setlist and it is so funny they play more Senjutsu songs now than they did when I saw them two years ago on what was ostensibly the Senjutsu tour. I can’t remember if I shared this story but Bruce got mad at the Seattle crowd for smoking too much marijuana, he literally was like ‘You all are smoking too many DOOBIES, I’m not gonna remember any of this show DUDE.’ Total square. It’s fine though because they do still fucking rock so hard.

Jack White at the Cactus Club yesterday will go down as one for the history books! Never been there before, but easily the smallest room I’ve ever been in for a concert. The excitement of every single person there was through the roof. The guy ripped through a close to two hour set without skipping a beat. I will say though, I think I prefer the show I saw at the bottle a couple years ago over this one setlist wise, but it was amazing hearing songs from the new record! Glad some of you guys get to experience it at the rave tonight!!

I had a similar experience last night to others around here who have seen Jack White on the No Name tour to this point, which is to say it was a helluva show. Some thoughts, musings, and observations:
-I have been to several shows at The Rave/Eagles Ballroom before, in fact I saw Jack at the Eagles Ballroom in 2018, but this was my first show at the Rave II. It's in the basement, I believe directly below the Rave, and has a very low ceiling. I'm guessing it holds around a thousand people. It definitely had an intimate feel.
-There was an opener that came on right at 8 that I can only assume was a local band. They got 15 minutes and were pretty forgettable, but I appreciate that Jack is doing this.
-Jack has reverted back to his "classic" look for the first time in like a decade. I believe this is strategic and fits the vibe of doing a club tour.
-Instead of making everyone put their phones in Yondr pouches, Jack had a member of his crew come out about 15 minutes before the show started to ask the audience to be present and mindful during the show. He specifically said snapping a quick pic or video was fine, but to avoid being on your phone the whole show. I thought this was a much more reasonable approach, and the audience obliged.
-Speaking of Jack's crew, it's hilarious to me that he's still having them dress up like they're in a jazz club from the 50s, especially for this type of tour. I guess it is pretty close to Halloween.
-I said this after seeing him on the Fear of the Dawn tour, but with Jack less is definitely more. I hope he never goes back to having a huge 10 piece band behind him, he doesn't need it.
-The Rave is still issuing hard tickets for every show, including will call only ones like this. I love it, never change.
That's all I've got, here's wishing good luck to everyone going for tickets on Tuesday, myself included.

I've talked a tremendous amount of shit about Jack White over the last decade and if you go back and listen to the albums in question I stand by basically all of it however the last two times I've seen him (the Bottle and tonight) have been great. He seemed really fired up tonight and regardless of how shitty some of his solo work is he's put together enough great songs to be a great live act more or less in perpetuity. More legacy artists in their flop era need to go back to playing clubs.
I will say someone needs to call the fire marshall on the metro holy shit does that place feel oversold any time there's one of these special event shows.

an old friend who stopped going to shows in 2020 texted me yesterday to ask if i wanted his extra for jack white. um, sure.
i really like the new jack white album, unlike his last several solo albums. so i was looking forward to hearing some of that, and we got a lot of it. he remains an excellent showman and the crowd by me was great except for two people who were on their phones/digital cameras almost the whole show. setlist was fine, but it looks like some other recent ones are a bit more suited to my tastes.

agree with the two previous posts, I fell in love with the guy for a reason. He definitely played some stuff I am not familiar with because of said flop era.
The hell that is an oversold Metro show really took away from the experience for me. I was stuck in the hallway in the back left

Agreed about the Metro being overcrowded. I think part of the problem was the balcony that is normally used for ADA seating appeared to be closed off to most folks (there was a smattering of people up there, I suspect VIPs). That forced more people onto the floor than there would have been otherwise. We were far left by the bar and it was not comfortable. With that said, I thought this show was even better than Milwaukee N2. The setlist was better for my tastes and Jack had more energy as well, possibly because he wasn't playing his 5th show in 4 nights as he was on Saturday. For whatever reason, we did not get the "be mindful and present" message from his crew before the show, and it made a difference. So many people around us who felt the need to record every song they recognized. I think the dude directly to the left of dij22 recorded the entire show. This took away from the experience a bit for me. Still, this was a fantastic concert and I'm glad to have gotten to see Jack twice on this tour.

I was on the rail in the balcony last night and thought it was perfect. I don’t even bother with the floor at metro anymore. Would much rather get a front of balcony spot nowadays. I thought last nights set and energy was even better than the Cactus Club gig last Friday!

Terrific show though. He is such a fantastic performer and this new album has added so many potential bangers to future setlists for the rest of his career.

Very strange. the guy in front of me would start recording in the middle of a song, then record through the next song too. i glanced at his screen a few times and saw 6-7 minute durations. his zooming was so tight that the whole shot was either jack's face or the guitar. everything looked horrendous. (in the crowd shot that metro posted on twitter/instagram, he's the guy holding the camera directly above the security guard on the right.)
