Murder City Devils were great last night. They had an embarrassingly small crowd for most of the show, but they still brought it. On what ended up being the second-to-last song, Spencer Moody hopped down into the crowd and slowly army-crawled across the floor while singing the rest of the song. He hopped up for the closer and jumped on some fan's shoulders who ran him back toward the stage while folks threw their drinks at him. 'Twas awesome.
Opener Buildings were also solid. I'd see them again.

Pallbearer and Gatecreeper were predictably fantastic last night. Thanks to Scoots for the beers. Got home at 12:45 and couldn't get to sleep until 3. ugh. Now for an incredibly long day of work.

There was literally no one in the balcony. On the plus side the sight lines were fantastic. Fun times.

Been waiting 40 years to see Jean Michel Jarre and it was worth every penny. Show was amazing aurally and visually. We were in the very small GA Pit area and had a great experience. Here's a couple of pics:

Enjoyed Michael Kiwanuka quite a bit the other night in Toronto (at the Phoenix). Surprisingly very sold out too; was a fan of his Lolla 2012 set but didn't realize the new stuff drew such a large audience. Anywho, good show, excited for the next time he's in town, enjoyed how each member of the band had a moment to shine as well.

Christopher Guest was very entertaining at the Music Box tonight, despite the terrible interviewer. We were sat right behind Jon Glaser and Eugene Mirman and Jamie Lee Curtis was right behind us

The Adventures of Pete & Pete reunion show at Lincoln Hall was amazing!! They did commentary on the Halloweenie episode and did some discussion on all things in the P&P universe. Endless Mike, Teddy, the Wrigley brothers, and Will McRobb showed up to the event -- I totally forgot how huge little Pete is now. I ended up getting pics with everyone except the Wrigley brothers after the show only because the lines were stupid long. I wish it moved faster but it's hard when everyone wants to spend 5 mins talking to them. Overall, it was well worth the price of admission. sleeping

So, The Avalanches were fucking amazing. Like, worth the decade-long wait since I first started listening to Since I Left You (which is near the top of my all-time favorite albums list). I'm not sure if the band member who usually plays drums couldn't be here tonight but the woman who replaced him (I think?) was perfect, played super animated as is needed.
Apparently this was their first-ever NYC show? Maybe I misunderstood but nearly positive they said that.
They brought out the woman who sang the original Subways sample and her daughter, which was cool.
They could definitely refine their set. There's a three song stretch near the end of the main set (two covers and Frontier Psychiatrist in between) that drags and lost the audience. Frontier is in general a hard song to do justice given their set-up but it was cool to hear nonetheless. Also, replacing the lyrics of The Noisy Eater was a questionable move.
That may sound damning but everything else was great and I was just overwhelmed by getting the chance to see them which I honestly didn't think would happen. So so so good. Don't miss them if you get the chance to see them.

Fact-checked and it wasn't their first NYC show (last one was 2002) so I'm not sure what they meant by that.

Just got back to the hotel after Bunbury, and Muse was lit. I know their new stuff isn't that great, but that set was one of the most fun sets I've seen. I'll also say I had a blast at 30 Seconds to Mars, the crowd interaction was great. And surprise of the day was Arkells. That lead singer puts on a show. AFI was as bad as I expected.

Hoops and Girlpool were both good at Do-Division on Saturday. Diet Cig were fine. We decided to leave when a teenager hopping through the crowd dropped the wine bottle out of her backpack and the shards sliced up a woman's foot/leg, leaving her bleeding everywhere. On they way out some dude punched me in the back claiming that I bumped into him. I didn't respond, but he followed us toward the exit, but made an abrupt about-face when he saw security coming for him.
Decided not to go back on Sunday.

pallbearer and protomartyr were both great last night. RLYR earlier in the day also kicked ass.

I went Saturday for the Ponys, great to see them again. Then I went to a house party above Dove's that was approximately 9,000 degrees before heading over to Subt to see Melkbelly and Protomartyr. In some bizarre twist, Subt was not a million degrees. They seemed to have....functional air conditioning?
Protomartyr were good, maybe not great, but they played a lot of new stuff and it sounded promising. The crowd was kinda subdued aside from a few of Those Dudes.

Yeah, I don't know what has happened lately, but I've actually enjoyed the shows I've gone to at Subt lately. Especially the ones in the downstairs room, actually.

downstairs subt is the best.
but yeah they've been better about temperature at most shows but sold out ones are still disgusting. cant be helped in a small room like that though i guess.

I don't think I've ever seen a show downstairs. They've had some good loval band bookings down there lately, the sound is surprisingly good down there. I'm happier seeing shows down there vs. upstairs

Saw Jenny Lewis last night for the first time. I've somehow managed to miss her for one reason or another every time she's close. She was absolutely incredible. She played some new material, which was all really great, and she brought the Watson twins with her for her backing band, which was a nice surprise. She has really great crowd interactions and overall had phenomenal stage presence. I was pretty blown away by the whole show.

Phoenix was terrific tonight. That was honestly one of the best shows I've been to in years. this is exciting to hear. I'm really excited to see them next week. hoping the setlist stays similar (aka Wolfgang focused) even after the new album comes out though. but maybe the new album is good I haven't listened to it yet

primavera sound was the absolute best. the layout along the sea, the sound is impeccable, the electronic area was very dope.
it's so cool how they worked in a surprise set in a different place everyday. the arcade fire set up was so awesome, on a 360 degree stage with the sun setting in the background. so amazing.
the fact that in one day i saw elza soares, arcade fire, bon iver, aphex twin, pinegrove twice, and others is just a bonkers day.
also a super affordable fest. beers in VIP were only 2.5 euro, gin and tonics were 7 and they filled like half the cup with gin. plus it is so easy to bring in alcohol that after the first day we only had to buy a couple actual drinks and could just keep refilling with our own gin.
and VIP is completely worth it. the viewing areas at the front of the main stages were great, and we only had trouble getting in them one time. plus the vip areas to chill in are a life saver, as is express entrance to auditori and the festival.
hope i can go again soon. prob not next year, but yeah it was so great.
