it's hard to narrow down the fav sets i saw since there were just so many good things, but i really loved aphex twin, elza soares, pinegrove, sampha, kelly lee owens, arcade fire (surprise set), bon iver, van morrison, polar inertia, front 242, sleep, and priests on the stage that was right on the mediterranean sea.
the club shows i saw on tues/weds of cigarettes after sex and kate tempest were also top notch.

oh, also on that note, worth going to go to clubs shows on tuesday/wednesday. and if you go, keep in mind you will absolutely not have any energy to do sight seeing stuff during the day. we got home around 6-6:30am every day, slept until like 2pm or something. drag yourself out of the apartment by late afternoon just to try to make it somewhat on time. if you want to do sightseeing, stay later or come early (i got there the thursday before the fest which let me see tons of stuff all weekend beforehand). coming that weekend would prob be a smart move.

was it kind of easy to hear about and get to that arcade fire surprise set or was it one of those things you could have easily missed if not paying attention?
god I want to go to that fest. its real tempting to try to plan my Europe trip around it but I also feel like that fest should be a trip in itself

Phoenix was terrific tonight. That was honestly one of the best shows I've been to in years. this is exciting to hear. I'm really excited to see them next week. hoping the setlist stays similar (aka Wolfgang focused) even after the new album comes out though. but maybe the new album is good I haven't listened to it yet
I was very surprised at how many Wolfgang songs were in the setlist. The new songs sound great too, and I wish they were playing more U.S. shows this year so I could see them after they release the album.

Sounds like a fantastic time. Mind if I ask how much it ran you? i bought cg's reduced price VIP which was only 200 euro, i think, so cost me like $225? which is so cheap. we split an airbnb for a little over 200 a person for 5 nights, and i had a single room airbnb for 5 nights before that was less than 200 by myself. i was lucky enough that my flight to europe was covered through work, but i spent $130 or so on a flight to barcelona. eating and drinking in barcelona is pretty cheap too, though i spent 10 days worth so ya know, that added up a bit. lowpoint of the trip was that our airbnb had construction going on IN THE BUILDING. when you're out til 6:30 and the jackhammer starts at 9am every morning....wooooof. anyone know if we can get airbnb to refund a portion of the rate for that bullshit?

Yeah id be super down with if this show next week is a little more greatest hits focused then later this year I can catch them when its more focused on the new album
I really think a fall US tour is pretty possible. They don't have any Texas dates and they usually hit something here. They'd make sense as a Sound on Sound headliner I think

yeah, would have liked to have seen mogwai, but it was during sampha so oh well. we did wind up seeing haim at 3am on the rayban (best stage) though, which was super nice. thissy told me that morning "i am not going to see haim" but there we were haim are a super pleasant band to bop along to drunk in the middle of the night. *other high point of the festival: it's only daylight for a couple hours if you show up at the right time, and then it's just chill and dark the whole time. so clutch, i miss it already

oh, another thing re: primavera, i didn't think i would be able to see solange but after the arcade fire surprise set threw off my schedule i wound up catching half or so while in line to get food at VIP. i wasn't intensely watching from close up, but it sounded really great and looked like she had a real sweet production. should be a set not to miss at p4k.

Franz Ferdinand at the Danforth in Toronto were a lot of fun this past Friday. Lots of dancing/light-swaying, especially as "Take Me Out" is nearly impossible to remain still for.
Played some new stuff but would say (at least in our area near the soundboard) it served as a bit of a beer-break before they went back in to the catchier songs.

Future Islands were fantastic last night. They played for an hour and 45 minutes and I was actually impressed that the people near me on the floor seemed to know every song not just the "hits" Also I didn't hate the Riv.

Re: Phoenix
I just looked at that Aragon setlist. Really can't complain since Wolfgang is incredible and I've seen them do the even older songs multiple times. That being said, zero songs from It's Never Been Like That is crazy and I do not support that development.

I saw a few metal bands at Subterranean last night cuz it was on Jukely and I hadn't been to a show in a while. Lume were good, Serial Hawk were not, and Black Wizard were fine. The most people in there at any time was like 30, which included the various band members.

was it downstairs? those are the best metal shows with that tight space in the back.
