It was alright but nowhere near as good as the Mansfield N3 stream. Second set was kind of losing me and by the time they got to 2001 I was kinda done.
Was honestly bummed to hear Wolfmans, Chalk dust, Possum…because they likely will not play them in STL in a few days now.

Saturday was fantastic. The 40 minute Simple was bananas and probably the loudest I've ever heard a Phish crowd. Genuinely cool moment.
Sunday was one of those shows where it's obviously still extremely fun when you're there but nothing really special if you're listening afterwards.
Very excited for STL tomorrow.

I saw on Twitter people were mad about the East Troy police. They should just play Wrigley again if true. Amazing to be saying this but it is probably the more drug friendly venue at this point.

I’m sorry about this post, I flicked my bean outrageously hard last night and thought you were teasing me for how expensive posters were. Ily nana, enough to post about you from a urinal in St. Louis while losing my phish virginity There was everything before last night, and now there will be everything since. It ruled

St. Louis Tweezer had my attention flagging a little bit during the mid-section, but the last 10 minutes are some of the most triumphant playing you'll ever hear. Like a 10-minute firework grand finale. I imagine hearing that in the room w/ the lights was unreal.

Phish Show #1: 2024-07-30 St. Louis, MO - Chaifetz Arena
Arrived in St. Louis in the late afternoon and got rolling straight to Wellspent Brewing Co which was decent at best, but at least a calm (empty), nearby place to chill before the show started. Avoided a complete downpour while we drank, and walked over to the arena just before doors so we could grab a poster inside. A light sprinkle kept us cool while we waited for doors, and I got a $93 (lmfao) foil print which thankfully had both show dates printed on it, which sort of justified it for me since I would've easily spent $45 twice on different posters.
My last experience with psychedelics could be politely/generously described as "ill-advised" but I do like them, so I tried to time out the perfect time to go, and I hit it straight on the head. Nothing but pure excitement and euphoria throughout the first several songs. Gotta Jibboo would've been nowhere near my list of predictions but it elevated things nice and early - made me tune in even a little tighter, thinking first set was gonna really blow me away. And it did. I looove NICU and even though Ocelot isn't necessarily my favorite, I do really enjoy Evolve so I was glad to get that as a "new" one.
Then....Theme From the Bottom. CK5 is doing this thing with the lights where he makes it look like the bottom of a boat is rocking back and forth over the band's head. The stage is washed in light blue. I am tripping balls. My girlfriend comes back from the bathroom and I start to explain that "this is the theme from the bottom, and right now we are on the bottom, and i think we have to wait for them to get back up to the top" before I realize I am higher than shit.
Once I was aware of that, I sort of just held on for the ride through Vultures, Timber, and Everything's Right. Solid ending to the first set, but my mind kept going back to that Theme the whole time. Everything's Right is a song I would barely care about listening to on a live show remotely, but I was fully into at the arena.
During set break I tried to order a "pretzel with cheese cup" from the concession stand but could not get through the order without laughing, making me one of "those guys" at a Phish show; happy to indoctrinate myself as such.
I got pretty comfortable in my groove when they came back out and ripped through 7 minutes of I Never Needed You Like This Before, which sounded grandiose enough that it could be a show closer - sick rock song. Man, I was feeling it, HARD.
It felt like NOTHING could derail me. Try as they may, I would not be shook.
Cue Tweezer. The older guy next to me (Raymond) grabs my shoulders and shakes them and says "this was your call! the one you wanted!" Shit. What did I call before the show? I know I know this song, but I'm higher than I thought. This is one of Phish's biggest songs! I reeeeeeally wanted to hear Mike's Song, but I don't think this is Mike's Song. Maybe its..........Trey's Song? Do they even have a song called Trey's Song?
Oh, wait, yeah. Tweezer!
25 minutes later, I am floating untethered through the milky way, drifting past a spaceship named Phish, concurrently amazed and terrified. My peripheral vision has faded and I am a prisoner of the evil bleep-bloops, effectively puddled in place, trying to fight the intrusive wonder if it will ever end. When Trey ripcords back into the hook almost a full 40 minutes later, I almost get the wind knocked out of me. They wrap up to an insane ovation, and I feel like I've run a marathon. In the bathroom right afterwards, everyone was asking each other how long they thought that Tweezer was. 23 minutes? Twenty NINE minutes?!?!? Back in my seat, I sit through Ether Edge before standing back up to watch them rip through an awesome Piper.
Arriving at a gently-claustrophobic part of my trip, I was delighted to see them close the main set with Blaze On before they took full advantage of my insobriety by encoring with Saw It Again, an experience I found scary, but in the fun October way, not in the "the Tweezer is trying to kill me" way. I would've put a lot of money on them saving Tweezer Reprise for the end of the second night, with how hard they fucked the Tweezer in set 2, so I let out a genuine elated scream when Trey fell into the lick. I danced, I put my hands in the air, I played air-piano, and I said "oh my god" over and over and over the whole walk back to the hotel.
Phish Show #2: 2024-07-31 St. Louis, MO - Chaifetz Arena
It was a casual 3,000 degrees in STL on day two, the day we'd planned to walk around and do shit. We saw the Gateway Arch, had a few more beers, tried some food, and then headed over to the lot where we had a good deal of fun and tried to be the right kind of custy.
I'll be honest - after that first night, I had no clue what they'd do to us on the second. By the time showtime rolled around, I was completely gassed from the night before + that day's heat. Appropriately, set one was a bit lower-key. Backwards Down the Number Line is a newer favorite of mine so I was very happy to hear that, but really the entire stretch of Hey Stranger, Back on the Train, Lawn Boy, Number Line, Horn, Pebbles & Marbles, Bouncing Around the Room had a wonderful through-line even if a bit subdued. Squirming Coil set closer was nice, but then I started getting prettttty tired.
Crushed a halfway-decent arena cheeseburger during set break and was STOKED to hear them open set 2 with Free, one of my biggest hopes for the shows. Felt fairly standard, and then I rested awhile longer before Twist had me back up out of my seat. I know Ruby Waves is famous for an amazing Alpine performance years ago, but it has never really moved me, and this night was no exception. It's nice, but it doesn't scratch my Phish itch at this time.
I know this is sacrilegious to even admit, but during First Tube we ducked out to avoid the Sophie's Choice of a $100 Uber to go 2 miles, or walking the same distance as we had the night before, missing - most notably - a Harry Hood closer that I only mildly regret. After the prior 36 hours' travel, drugs, mind-melting first show, 2-mile walk, and full day in the heat - it was really the right move, especially with the drive back the next morning.
I was overwhelmed with joy after the first night, and had a much more reservedly-appreciative attitude toward night 2. Obviously there are aforementioned personal factors there, but my biggest takeaway from night 2 was "how the jesus fuck am I supposed to do this 4 nights in a row, outside, in Denver?"
But we will find out!

Cracked up several times reading this write-up - really great feel for being there, and sounds like an awesome weekend of shows! To your last point, I've been working on gathering my gear for Mondegreen and, yeah, four days in a row is gonna be a motherfucker. Maybe if I tell myself enough beforehand that it's a marathon, not a sprint, then it'll actually sink in.

My girlfriend bought one of the $30 big nalgene-style water bottles and we filled it at a water fountain probably 10 times between the two nights. I don't know what water stations will be like at Mondegreen but I will absolutely be doing that at Dicks to stay hydrated and afloat. I can't even imagine how much it saved us on water (and, dehydration!). And again, we were inside!

Saw Phish at Chaifetz both nights, great show. My first time seeing them and they did not disappoint! Forty-minute Tweezer reaaaaally took me for a ride. At one point asked if this was REALLY happening - I felt like I was perched at the top of the arena watching/soaring from above. Incredible light show which was slightly enhanced by some fun substances. I Never Needed You Like This Before was GREAT. Night 2 highlights for me was the little dance to Turtle in the Clouds and also Lawn Boy. Chaifetz also has some Not Terrible burgers, surprisingly, but it’s possible I imagined that.
Did not get Possum, but I knew that since the did it at the previous stop.
If you get a chance, check out the lot for some cool merch. I regret not getting a “Trey Slays” tank top and instead got a mojito from a lady and her dog.
