I don't really feel like clogging up the unrelated series of thoughts thread with my related series of daily phish videos that i am watching
this has a really tasty down with disease
my favorite phish jams at the moment: david bowie, chalk dust torture, fluffhead, ghost, the moma dance, mikes > weekapaug
i would like to watch IT at some point this weekend, the tower set looks cool
who all goin' to the sphere? it would be genuinely super funny if they covered a u2 album one night. i remember one year during the countdown to halloween, they had an online gallery of album covers that would get bloodily axed out to eliminate them from consideration, and joshua tree was one of them. kind of wondering what they'll do to make those shows unique.
do you have any good phish stories?
were the donuts they gave out at msg for the bakers dozen actually good?

I've been on a jam band thing lately and feel like I'm very liable to fall into being a Phish fan but the whole thing is intimidating and I don't know where to start
I would just go to a show, probably the best way to just get into it, but they haven't played here since 1999. They do seem to do Austin every 4-5 years though and they are due, if that happens soon I might just do it

They do seem to do Austin every 4-5 years though and they are due, if that happens soon I might just do it Echoing what chvrch said - that was basically how I got into the Dead and Phish to an extent. Tbh I started with A Live One, which is functionally their Europe 72 - i.e. a compilation from a killer tour of a band on the verge, that serves as an essential gateway for new fans. I then found a few shows that really stuck with me and are still favorites to this day. Chief among those is 4/3/98 at Nassau Coliseum, which you can find on any streaming platform. The run on there from Roses are Free > Piper > Loving Cup is so perfect that it's what I listened to in the morning while getting ready for my wedding. Take it slow, getting into this band can seem even more overwhelming than getting into the Dead or something. There's just A LOT of information out there about them, tons of lore, and seemingly endless places to start from. I basically spent a year with just like 5-6 shows I loved and a few studio albums before really diving into the deep end. Find a show you like, find a video you like - and just let it simmer for you.

My first show :')
Honestly I got into them through A Live One, Junta and Hoist so idk. I never think A Live One is a bad place to start.
I don't really have any great stories. One time I dragged my friend Kimmler to see them at Alpine with the promise of beer, weed and cute hippie boys and we were partying so hard in the lot we missed the first set (heard them start but thought someone was just playing a bootleg really loud)

Then agree to go to a Phish festival with everyone you know who likes Phish so you are trapped for 4 days with nothing else to do but talk about this dumb band until you are obsessed.

my only time to see phish was at acl '10 and it was a nice, tight 2-hour show. i wondered why all the glowsticks were flying around and someone said that i'm probably not seeing what a lot of other people are ;–)
and for the life of me i still can't reconcile why i saw gogol bordello over either monsters of folk or lcd soundsystem the next day :–(

It's official! I'll be 100% attending this, barring anything wacky coming up. How large will the Board contingent be in Dover?

Sorry if this is a dumb question but is Phish the only band that plays at that? I believe so? This is the first festival they've put on since I've become a fan (the last one, Curveball in 2018, was washed out by storms right beforehand). My understanding is only Phish performs. Would be cool if they added some other groups too, but idk.

Yeah Phish festivals are just them.
Last time I went it was a normal show every night, one daytime set on Saturday, and a secret set late Saturday night.

Was just reading something online that these do not exactly tend to sell out - I don't need to be worried about sniping a ticket to this right at the onsale, do I?
Would love to spend some time trying to decide which sounds less-torturous, the strain of camping for 4 days, or my inevitable impatience trying to get on/off property if I get a hotel.

Phish festivals are really fun, but there's not that much difference between a fest and a normal 3-night run. It becomes special because you're immersed in it with nothing else to do. If you're staying at a hotel, you can do that any time at any weekend run for a lot cheaper (and in cooler locations than Delaware)

I really don't want to consider this but I'm probably gonna consider this. Camping in Delaware in August sounds dreadful though.
