Less than two months until opening day! Might as well get a new thread going.
With that, I believe every team will now meet the MLB recommendations.

Also, I don't want this to get lost as a result: Kevin Towers passed of thyroid cancer at 56 this morning

What’s this new pace of play base runner rule they’re thinking of implementing? I only skimmed the Espn article but it sounds dumb

It's just for the All Star game. Beginning in the 11th inning each team would start with a runner on 2nd base. I think they did the same thing for the WBC.

EDIT: didn't see Pale Hose's post.
The only pace-of-play related rule I would like to see implemented is a 25-man game day roster in September so managers can't use the expanded rosters to trot out a thousand shitty relievers .

I don't want this absurdity to get one step closer to the actual games. They already talked about doing it in the minors last year. It's offensive to the spirit.

RIP Oscar. A fun and criminally underrated hitter.

It's now February, spring training is just a couple weeks away, and the vast majority of free agents including the biggest names remain unsigned.
This is nuts. I'm inclined to think most teams have probably put their best offers out there at this point. I'm surprised Boras is still willing to wait on most of his guys considering what happened with Stephen Drew a few years ago.

They (GMs/owners) are trying to price them down and have them sign for below their value on teams. That's what I remember reading a month ago somewhere anyway

The reported offers I've seen were pretty fair IMO. From what I understand the length of the offers has been the biggest hangup, but it was only a matter of time before MLB teams stopped giving 6 and 7 year deals to guys on the wrong side of 30.
No one wants to have another Pujols, Cabrera, Ellsbury etc on their hands.

According to Heyman, Yu is pushing Strasburg's 7/175 as a comp.

Right, and that's not a good comp in my opinion. Darvish is 3 years older than Strasburg was when he signed that deal.

That's what I remember reading a month ago somewhere anyway As far as I know there is no credible evidence of collusion. I wouldn't put it past the owners but there are other factors here: (1) overall, this is not a very good group of free agents and many teams may be saving money for next year's class which will include Harper and Machado; (2) Boras represents most of the decent free agents; and (3) when a mediocrity like Hosmer is offered 7 years/$140M and counters with 8/$200M, no one is getting signed.

I'm both concerned that he was doing that at this level, and feel like its something he can definitely fix.

I think the Lorenzo Cain deal suggested that there isn't widespread collusion and Hosmer at 7 for 130 ish (if true) sounds about right as well. I just think Boras is playing chicken with the owners to see who will blink first. With Yankees and Dodgers sitting it out and no Mike Ilitch around to make it rain, the bidders just aren't there.

I want Boras to lose, but not the players involved. :/

I could see wanting Boras to lose when he's negotiating against your team, but is he really less loathsome than the owners? There is so much money out there. If he can try and get players their fair share while providing us with comical pull quotes, what's not to like?
I love Boras. Over the years I've seen the light. Feels good man

Fair. I did have the realization a month or so ago that the owners don't really need someone rooting for them and their pockets. I just want to see the FO be smart about payroll, especially vs. the luxury tax.

Hard to hold it against Boras or other agents for trying to get the best possible deal for the players they represent. Also really hard to feel bad for the owners in that scenario - they get the prime years of all these players for a relative bargain.

It's insane how excited I am for what likely will be a 70 win team, but here we are. Hopefully MLB.tv has another great deal this year.

Free agency itself just seems a little broken at the moment.

Tom and Todd Ricketts are just trying to #MAGA. They need that dough more than Boras
