Apparently "only" $126M of that is guaranteed.

I bet we see more of these types of contracts - especially for pitchers. 6 for 150 would be the amount he could get if he's competent. But if he's trash after a year or two he's only getting 126.
Not sure if Jake can crack 100 now tho

Rosenthal says he'd have to win multiple cy youngs to get to 150. obviously, if he's doing that the Cubs will be more than happy to bump it from 21 to 25

Oh wow - yeah, I'm guessing Jake and Boras aren't loving this deal then.

I wonder if Boras will continue to have his guys hold out for more money. Surely he (and other players) will still remember the millions he cost Kendrys Morales and Stephen Drew.

I think that Boras is waiting until the clock counts down on the Smashing Pumpkins site, at which point he will announce that Eric Hosmer is the Pumpkins new bassist

Former White Sox pitcher Esteban Loaiza was arrested last week on three felony drug charges, according to the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
Loaiza, 46, was found in possession Friday of at least 20 kilograms of heroin and cocaine, according to the police report. In addition, he was charged with transporting the drug and intent to sell. Loaiza’s bail amount was set at $200,000.

Oh wow 20 kilos is kind of a lot.
Loiaza for Contreras was one of the few bad Cashman trades

Health will make or break this contract because just looking at it as money to numbers this is a good deal even with the aging factor.

Went down a Wiki-rabbit hole of former White Sox players and found out that LaMarr Hoyt missed a start after injuring himself lighting a fart.
Baseball players - they're just like us.

Sounds like an apt way to describe every James Shields start as well

If any baseball nerd wants to join my auction league, we have one spot we need to fill. It's a h2h points based league (more info here and here if you've never done points based scoring) with keepers and minor league rosters. The team you'd be inheriting has some monster keeper possibilities so you can compete right away. $75 entry fee and the online draft would be 3/24 or 3/25. PM me if interested.

Tony Watson to the Giants 3/7.
I mention this signing because given some of the deals that were handed out earlier this off-season, it seems pretty likely that Boras overplayed his hand and likely cost Watson significant dollars.

Eric Hosmer goes to the Padres. No details on the numbers yet.
Local sports is saying unconfirmed 8-year deal.

The Hosmer deal is 8/144. So if we believe what had been reported, he was able to guarantee an extra year, at a lower AAV.

The contract structure for the Hosmer deal is pretty good for the team. It's 20 mil a year for 5 years and he gets an opt out option, and then 13 mil a year for the last 3.
I still think Hosmer kinda blows though so this deal will be a disaster

I think he'll have a few good years with the Padres, but not 8 good years.

This is especially amazing now that Dave Cameron actually works for the Padres.
